How *should* it end?

So, feel free to offer feedback on the theory I'm about to post or feel free to post your own version of how you'd like to see it end. It doesn't necessarily have to be how you think it will end, but rather how you'd like to see it end if you could make the decisions.

My theory (Sorry for the length)

The island is a nexus or a hub between the many different realities that exist. Theoretical physics posits that there might be many different realities. Many Worlds Theory.

While Jacob (or any guardian) lives, the MIB can't leave this nexus. If the MIB does leave the nexus, it will cease to exist and perhaps collapse all realities down into a single one - whichever one the MIB exists in presumably. - or - Either that, or the MIB wants simply to cease to exist because he's been alive and imprisoned and if he leaves the island, he will finally be allowed to perish. The twist is that the MIB is actually the good guy here. Because the island is a hub where the different realities intersect, he knows that by killing someone on the island, it will allow them to jump into a reality just as we are seeing in the sideways reality this year. In fact, I predict that many if not all of the main cast will end up dying and end up in the sideways reality we're currently watching play out. Jacob, by marking his candidates so that the MIB can't kill them is actually condemning them to endure more pain and hardship until they finally meet their fate on the island and the MIN free's those he can.

Jacob is trying prove that he's right about something, but in his effort to prove he's right about mankind being able to be good, he's lost sight of what he's been putting people through over the ages. His manipulations of people cause countless amount of pain and death and in fact, every person he's brought to the island has resulted in their death. Perhaps that doesn't concern him as much because he knows when people die on the island, they end up in a different reality at the point at which they entered the island. The MIB has seen enough of this game go on for too long and wants this to be over so people aren't pulled into this arena where Jacob can try and prove he's right.

The show ends when Jack or someone else realizes that Jacob doesn't have their best interest at heart and taking over as guardian just means the cycle will continue and so they decide to all leave the island or allow the MIB to leave the island which causes the island to sink and whomever is still around at the end will join those who have already passed on in the sideways reality. The whispers are weak spots that lets you hear voices from other realities. The others really aren't the good guys for helping Jacob perpetuate this game.

The End ;)

So, what do you think? I welcome both well considered positive or negative feedback.

I like someone's suggestion that Jack and Locke become the new Jacob and MiB. However, the one thing I don't like about that notion is that I want Old Locke to be somehow resurrected at the end. Doesn't seem right that he just gets killed out of the blue like that.

I think the island is simply a prison, either for an alien overlord or SATAAAAAN! :D God somehow managed to imprison Satan eons ago and Jacob is a human who has been promoted to quasi-angelic status to serve as guard. Even though I may joke about it, I can't see this show going with the alien angle at this late date, so I'm leaning towards the theological one.

Yknow what I would really like the best? Locke and UnLocke (why don't people like that name? :p)become the new Jacob and MiB. Lots of characters die, some live, everyone leaves forever and the island vanishes for good. THE END! :D

So long as Old Locke comes back in some way (be it him giving advice to Hurley as a ghost) I'll be happy.

^ Wow! I *think* we are surely going to see that happen! Good thinking, sidious618.

Still thinking about label's theory...

That's already been done. ;)

Agreed. I've liked this notion for a while now and if they don't let the island sink and go away, I'd like to see Jack/Locke become the new Jacob/Esau

I'm posting this in this thread as it's a good theory on what's really going on in the show and it's significantly different than my own theory.

This is my take on it.

-Imagine that the island is a maximum security prison.
-The "Prisoners" in this prison is the evil, and if it escape the world would be in danger. Just like in a real prison if a serial killer or mass murderer escape he'd be a danger to society.
-Jacob is the Warden of the prison, he's in charge of the day-to-day operations, making sure the prison runs well, and is effective.
-The MIB/Smokie is the Prison Guard. In charge of actually keeping the security of the prison intact. Making sure no one escapes.
-The Prison/island has rules of conduct, just in the real world a prison has to follow the rules laid out by the government (State or Federal). For example, a Prison Guard can't just kill a Prisoner for no reason, but if the Prisoner tries to escape then he can shoot him. The Island also has it's own rules about killing and escaping and such... Who made these rules and enforces them is still unknown, but probably the source of some of the "ghosts" we've been seeing.

At some point in the far past, Jacob & the MIB took on their roles, Warden & Prison Guard. maybe they chose to do it for a good cause, maybe it was the promise of eternal life, maybe they were tricked in to it. How ever it happened, they took their roles. Maybe they were both good guys back then. Or both just normal people, neither super good or super evil.

But over time the MIB began to get tired of his role as security guard. he was stuck in this prison 24/7 pretty much just like any of the actual prisoners were. he became resentful and angry. Why should he care what happens if the "prisoners" escape? he has nothing to do with the outside world anyways and besides everyone who he ever meets (people that come to the island) always end up the same, fighting, killing, etc... Why should he spend his life protecting people like that?

Jacob, on the other hand, never lost sight of the goal and what they were doing there on the island/prison. By bringing people to the Island he is trying to show Smokie/The MIB, that not all people are evil, that some are good and just and that the jobs they (Jacob & The MIB) are preforming are of great importance.

But it's too late now. the MIB is determined to "quit his job" and leave the Island. If he does so, then there will be no guard there to stop the "Prisoners" from escaping. And they will escape and evil will take over the earth. But the MIB no longer cares, as far as he is concerned the people of the earth are already evil and corrupt.

The first thing the MIB had to do was get rid of the "Prison Warden" before he could quit/leave. Now that he is done that, all that is left for him to do it make his own "escape" from the "prison" and the rest of the world be damned.

So I don't think the MIB started out evil, but he has become selfish, caring only about himself, and he is willing to damn the rest of the world to get his way. So now, he is for all intents and purposes, evil. Because what he wants to do for himself will cause evil to be released upon the world. So he has to be stopped.

Or... Someone will have to take over his role as "Prison Guard", just like someone has to take over Jacob's role as "Warden".

I'm betting Jack becomes the Warden and Sawyer becomes the Prison Guard. Stuck together on the Island for eternity. Well, at least until history ends up repeating itself, 1000 or so years from now when Sawyer tires of his job and tries to kill off Jack and escape.

There will be a final confrontation atop an exploding volcano. Cerebus/Locke falls into the lava, destroying his Locke body and leaving him back as a bodiless black smoke. Jack becomes the new Jacob with Hurley as his immortal advisor a la Richard. The rest of them go back home. Oh and Widmore dies obviously ;) Ben will also make a heroic and redeeming self-sacrifice.

The screen goes back and it says.....

Technical Difficulties Please Stand By.....

And we miss the answer to all our questions, all because the basted grays just had to be drunk and shoot down ABC's satellite while trying to make a crop circle in Texas explaining to the world that 2012 is when they are landing to take over the world because they've seen how we've run things and think they can do better....

Or someone pushed the wrong button at the wrong time....

I agree that the original Locke should become the new Jacob somehow. It's the natural thematic end to the character.

The other ending I'd be interested in is Jack becoming the new leader of The Others.

Jin steers the island into the sun while Jack and the rest settle on primitive earth. Locke and Jacob look over the shoulder of Abrams.

*cue All Along The Watchtower*

Old Locke time travels back to young Locke's lifetime via the island, and the evil MIB follows him, with powerful weapons, and ends up killing Young Locke's father, changing the course of history, now in this new reality Locke never went to the island, but he finds out about the MIB through Widmore, and comes to the island to kill the MIB, and the MIB is in the alternate universe's dead Locke body, so we have nuLocke fighting deadunLocke to the death, NuLocke wins, and somehow everyone gets to live in the same reality and there are two Locke's, one becomes Jacob and the other goes off and sets up a new colony on the Island of The Others.
