How old is the planetary union in The Orville?

It is mid 25th century based on the dating of the time capsule they found and the time travel episode this season--and I'm sure it has been stated somewhere. To my knowledge, we have never had a concrete dating of the founding of the Union but it must only be a few years prior to 2035 based on the dialogue in the last episode.

They mention not having their version of the prime directive until after 2235 in the last episode.
And that's the earliest reference we have to the Union's existence. We can infer it was likely founded somewhat recently before that, since the episode refers to that incident as being part of the Union's earliest exploration days, but otherwise we have no idea when the Union was formed.

The Orville tries to stay away from this form of excess exposition. Truth is, when the Union was formed isn't really relevant to the story in any of the episodes, so there's no reason to establish a date just for the sake of having a date.

This is like trying to pin down the year classic Star Trek was set, which during it's run claimed 200 and 700 years up from the mid 1960's. And then later movies and shows would decide both of those were wrong and it was actually 300:lol:

If they ever come up with a storyline which needs you to know the date the PU was formed, it'll be whenever works best for that story ahead of any little hints in prior ones.
