How Media Juggernauts Manipulate

I thought this was kind of funny.

On the geek news front, the first Green Lantern trailer was just released.

On the more mainstream, kinda' "housewife" news front, People magazine has named Ryan Reynolds the sexiest man alive.

Both of these on the same day.

Ryan Reynolds is in Green Lantern.

Green Lantern is made by Warner Brothers.

People is published by Time Warner.

Time Warner owns Warner Brothers.

Hmm...this is awfully coincidental, no?

There are lots of corporate ownership situations that would maybe surprise folks who don't have the inside info!

For instance I have several friends who complain about folks like Kid Rock and Snookie showing up on the CMT (Country Music Television) award shows and other programming that features rock stars on that channel.
When I informed them that MTV owns CMT they immediately started watching GAC.

So the next time you see some sort of network appearance, accolade or honor going to a celebrity just ask yourself what the celeb is promoting and who owns the property they're promoting!

It's all about connections and money. Especially award shows!

Here's an interesting one...

Dove makes those ads about redefining beauty and flaunts themselves for using models and actresses that don't fit the stereotypical beauty mold.

However, the same company also owns and promotes AXE deodorant with those terribly sexist ads.

How amazing is Dove now, ladies?
