How Long Has The Enterprise-E Been In Service Now?

Dayton3

Admiral
IIRC, the Star Trek timeline pretty much marches in lockstep year by year forward with the current passage of time.

So, First Contact was in 1996 wasn't it?

According to the dialogue in the movie, the Enterprise E entered service one year before that.

So, does that mean the E has now been in servie for 12 years?

And given that I assume only a new movie or series would be allowed to establish the destruction of the E-E and none is currently planned until at soonest, the movie AFTER Trek 11 (which might be in 2010 at the earliest)............then can be assume that the E-E is guaranteed at least 15 years of life?

Thats interesting. Fifteen years equals about 380-390 episodes.

While the movies and series did seem to follow the one real world year=one in-universe year rule, it's not really applicable anymore since it's unlikely we're ever going to see any of the 24th century series revisited onscreen.

Though I suppose Abrams could surprise it us with a special cameo from the big E and Patrick Stewart.

But I wouldn't hold my breath.

So I guess the only way to know the current age of the 1701-E is by the novels, who, AFAIK, haven't progressed further than a year after Nemesis, so it's still 2380. Which means the Enterprise-E is just on eight years old and tied for lifespan with the Enterprise-D.

Though I do foresee a long and illustrious service life, under both Captains Picard and Worf. :D

The Enterprise-E's dedication plaque lists it as being commissioned on stardate 49xxx.x, so that should be around 2372. If there was still live-action 24th-Century Trek going on based on subsequent years from TNG's premiere, then it should be around 2384 (stardate 61xxx.x) currently. She's coming close to being in service twice as long as the Enterprise-D did...

Why do you think that?

For one thing, the producers of such revisits would have to re-enlist at least some of the original actors for this, and most of them probably wouldn't agree once they have gotten off the Trek typecast pipe. It's different when all these people ever do is Trek, Trek and Trek, as with the TNG movies following the TNG show; but once there is a clean break, it will probably become excessively difficult to get, say, Avery Brooks or Tim Russ back.

Revival of TOS with TMP was quite a success. I doubt anything of the sort could be done with the spinoff shows, though.

Now, an all-new 24th century series, without most of the original actors or any of the (long since destroyed) sets...

^ You never know though. Perhaps a 24th Century film - eventually - with a crew pooled from the different series may work.

That may not work if they waited too long, and the actors from the three series were uninterested or had passed away.

Why not just a new crew aboard the Enterprise-E?

Why insist that it be crewed by people from any of the current series?

Perhaps, but for the viewers, wouldn't you want some transition or change of command ceremony between Picard and the new Captain?

I personally wouldn't mind the E being the first Enterprise that actually lived long enough to change hands (onscreen), including a ceremony with Picard. Surely they could get him to do a cameo if it was a new movie?

:rommie:

If necessary, were Patrict Stewart too old to do it when a new series was made and you wanted him to take part in the handover, you could have him do a voice over with a message on the viewscreen (using younger Picard footage).

Say that "Admiral Picard was away on assignment and unable to attend in person".

You could do that but the producers would probably want to create their own starship.

I think if the new movie is a hit, we may just get more of the Constitution Enterprise and the 23rd Century in future installments.

I think the current goal is to stay in the 23d century if movie XI is a big enough hit.

Which it won't be.

Big opening weekend.

Collapse after that.

Paramount is disappointed.

It makes just enough to keep a glimmer of hope alive among franchise fans.

Since 2372 (Stardate 49027.5 on the dedication plaque, which is generally recognized as early January 2372)(Stardate wonks, don't start on me...), and the events of First Contact were in 2373, Insurrection 2375, and Nemesis 2379. I don't know what year they're in with the newer Next Gen books.

I'd love to see a new crew. If a TNG series regular has to be on the ship, I'd say we promote Geordi to Captain and say Picard died of natural causes in his sleep.

I wouldn't mind bringing Wesley back as the new Chief Engineer if they make him less of a Wunderkind and more of a bitter and disgruntled adult. Considering that incident at the Academy disgracing him, this shouldn't be so difficult. Wil Wheaton just might like that angle.

No offense, I'm kind of flattered.

But why does anyone want to reboot a thread I started a year ago and that ended nearly a year ago?
