How hard was Picard?

Cheapjack

Fleet Captain
On a scale of one to ten?

He didn't come across as much in Encounter. A bit flat. Was he as hard as Kirk? He is an ex head of security.

I think there should have been an Enemy Within type of episode, where he loses it a bit. He came over as a bit flat, sometimes. It shouldn't have been left to Worf to provide the aggro, I think.

Patrick Stewart seemed to get better at playing him ,as he got into it more, though I don't think PS is as physical a guy as Shatner. Kirk did a hell of a lot of fights, but Picard looked like he could handle himself, even though he was past his prime. He never really lost it and ripped into someone. Perhaps that was his strength. And he always seemed to me to be wary of Worf, though he did call him a coward in First Contact, which made me suck in my breath!

There did seem to be an impression in TNG, that this TNG of humans were a bit more 'tame' than TOS. I would have liked to see them lose it a bit more, bare their teeth, on occassion! They did have canines, didn't they?

Picard took out 2-3 Klingon assassins in "Sins of the Father", I'd say he was plenty hard and wouldn't have been afraid of Worf.

Physically perhaps not so much as Kirk but, as already mentioned, Picard didn't get into as many fights. Stewart has an incredible presence, though; this Shakespearian training certainly shines through. Despite Picard's awkwardness with children (I don't think he "hates" them; he's simply uncomfortable around them) he's the perfect captain for a Galaxy-class starship.

How hard was Picard? Well I'd say he was very hard for Vash, but quite soft for Luxwanna. Wait...oh. OHH! THAT kind of hard. Picard was an intellectual badass. He knew how to be diplomatic and negotiate. He was never intimidated by anyone at all. Ever. Klingons? Romulans? Cardassians? Women pretending to be Satan? Pffft. Picard called their bulls*** and wouldn't let them get away with it. He also had his own sense of right and wrong and would do everything in his power to see that the right thing, the just thing, was done. Hell, he fought with corrupt starfleet captains and admirals without a second thought as soon as he became aware of their bulls***. So, yes, Picard is hard.

Picard: nemesis of bulls***ers everywhere.

In some ways, both Patrick Stewart and Picard remind me of one of my great-uncles, who was working as a doorman at the age of fifty. They have the same look in the eyes. Bit roguish, bit ladies man. I would have liked to see the roguish side of Picard explored a bit more. He can't have been all principles and morals. We only saw a bit of a glint in his eye with Vash. My mother said Picard reminded her of her uncle, too, apart from the bald head!

Not very. If you watch "Captain's Holiday" take a look at him when he is walking to the transporter room to beam down to Risa. He isn't hard at all, he leans to the left and i cannot believe costuming didn't have him wear underwear with those pants.

Oh, that isn't what you meant? Oh well. Check out those pants anyway.

I hated Picard in the beginning. He was too tough. He loved himself, he didn't trust his crew and he hated kids. I don't know how Riker put up with him. He was the Boss From Hell if you ask me.

But as he softened up and became more reasonable I began to see the real man he was. He took a bullet to the chest in "Who Watches the Watchers". I love Kirk, don't get me wrong, but I've never seen any captain do that before!

I can believe it. Since TMP, at the latest, Star Trek has always been in love with the outline of the male genitals. Nothing really wrong with it, but it's really quite bizarre, I've never seen another show whose costumers had such a hard-on, so to speak, for cloth-swaddled penis.

Picard was disciplined, but still was a tough cookie. and was never willing to back down from a fight should it arise.

I don't think any of the captains were wimps, and could more than hold their own should needs be. :techman:
