How far Away...

How far away was Voyager from entering the Beta Quad. In my Star Trek Book "Star Charts" it never really states how close the B.Q. is, however it seems to be REALLY close, in the Voyager Sea 7 progress map. Furthermore in the final few ep's, Janeway never mentions that they are within a few Days, Weeks from finally getting out of the D.Q.
What gives, was it ever stated in any other source...

Resistance is Futile

Berman/braga/whoever was using a different map than we have in our encyclopedia for most of the journey. I forget the episode, but they showed us a map where-at on screen that the Beta Quadrant is diagonally away from the Delta quadrant a half inversion of what the encyclopaedia says. They changed their mind by season seven and showed the "proper" map positions on screen, but that hardly changes the point that they had traveled over 40 thousand light years during a 70 thousand light year voyager and they hadn't yet left the delta quadrant.

Defensively Braga(I doubt it was Berman.), after having been asked the same question 2 million times, has been heard to say at conventions that the Bajoran wormhole egress in the gamma quadrant and the Deep Space Nine are practically equidistant from the caretakers array, I believe that statement is usual concordant with his fits where he/one-of-them rants at the braying audience "I don't care if it's not on the bloody TV, if I say it is so, then it's fricking canon! I AM STARTREK!".

I would imagine they were around 20 something years from Beta Quadrant, after all eventually Voyager got home (as seen in the possible future in Endgame), thus its not illogical to assume they simply went ahead with the rest of the journey normally, perhaps encountering some slightly faster methods along the way, this way they would have got to the Beta Quadrant and perhaps the Klingon Empire would have escorted them back to Federation Space

the voice over int he beginning of Endgame said they spent 20 years total... Actually?

[2404 - San Francisco - Admiral Janeway's Apartment - night] (Voyager swoops over San Francisco amid fireworks)
NEWSREADER [OC]: These should be familiar images to everyone who remembers the USS Voyager's triumphant return to Earth after twenty three years in the Delta quadrant. Voyager captivated the hearts and minds of people throughout the Federation, so it seems fitting that on this, the tenth anniversary of their return, we take a moment to recall the sacrifices made by the crew. Corruption charges were brought today against a Ferengi
JANEWAY: Computer, end display.
The axis equally segmenting the galaxy into quadrants runs through the centre of the galaxy and Earth itself is near enough to the rim of the Galaxy that on Jim Kirks first day he rammed the galactic barrier.... You know simple stuff any idiot should know, but if it took them nearly ten years to get no where near the Great Barrier, then surely they'd be chugging along for a decade in the AQ before they tiptoed into Federation Space?

Obviously the newspresenter is an idiot.
