How does Nero prevent (Spoilers)

When Nero was talking to a bound Pike on the Narada, he says he prevented genocide. Obviously he's talking about Romulus. Uh how? With our without the Vulcan's technology, Romulus is doomed. It's 129 years in the future and I doubt that Nero has managed to convince Romulus about the problem, since they didn't believe him in the future.

Nero only gets the red matter and jelly fish when Spock goes through time. He can't fly the jelly fish ship, only Spock(s) can. Nero's first job on getting the red matter was destroy Vulcan and then head to Earth.

He hasn't saved Romulus.

Nero was a grieving madman, plus (as already pointed out) he did have the red matter. He possibly expected to just wait a century, and stop the supernova when it began (in other words, do what Spock failed to do).

In the meantime, he'd have gotten his revenge against the Federation, which he now blamed for everything.

Now, thanks to older Spock's input, SOMEONE may have a chance to catch the nova in time, but without the Federation being wiped out.

Now the only "Vulcan" world to remain is that of the breakaway group who rejected Surak.

But, in Countdown, it was the Vulcan High Council who turned down Spock's first request causing the delay in saving Romulus, not the federation. Also, The Romulan Senate refused to evacuate Romulus, not believing there was a threat until too late.

The super duper nova is still going to happen in the future.

Well, if Nero wipes out the Federation, that would give him some "street cred" to the Romulan government, so that at the very least, they can spread out the empire, allowing for far more survivors.

As a matter of fact, with the weaponry at Nero's disposal, he could take over the Empire if they were too slow in meeting his demands.

Since he waited 25 years, he might wait another 25 to allow the Empire to trust his judgment.

Well Nero is romi, and the romulan's have always viewed ''outsiders'' with distrust & suspicion. So it's not a total suprise that he would wipe out all the federation planets first (as he said) and then go to romulas and alert them of hobos star.
