Galli-fray or Galli-free?

"Fray", as in "enters the fray". "Gallifree" just sounds cheap and reactionary.

ISTR Tom pronounces it "-free" at least once (I think he's trying to rhyme it to "remember me" at the time), but every other time it's been spoken, by Tom or anyone else, its been "-fray"

Nah, it's French for "The Dude You Place Bets With". In America we pronounce it Bookie. In France, because it ends with "et", it's pronounced Book-kay (Urban American Neighborhoods also use the French pronunciation)
Tom definitely says "Galli-free" at least a couple of times. Near the end of "The Hand of Fear," he pronounces it that way several times running.
Not sure when he stops saying it that way, but the standard pronunciation has definitely switched to "Galli-fray" by "The Invasion of Time."

I might be mistaken, but when I initially read the post that began this I thought of the BBC TV Show "Keeping up Appereances" where the lead characters surname is Bucket but she pronounces it as Bouquet to make it sound more posh.
Heh, yea, I once had a friend with the last name of Bullet, who constantly had to correct people that it was pronounced Boo-Lay, not to make himself sound posh, nothing posh about him, LOL, but, that's the way his family has always pronounced it, due to it's origins.I thought it was Boo-Qwet?

I might be mistaken, but when I initially read the post that began this I thought of the BBC TV Show "Keeping up Appereances" where the lead characters surname is Bucket but she pronounces it as Bouquet to make it sound more posh.
When the name is first spoken in "The Time Warrior", the serial that introduced the Sontarans, Jon Pertwee clearly pronounced it with a long "A" sound at the end.
In "The Hand of Fear", Tom says the name when he is "overwhelmed" by a telepathic "recall signal", so, if he does use a long "E" sound, (to me, it sounds like a blurring of an "A" and an "E"), I gather he's dazed from the emergency contact.
