How Do You Feel About The Big Bang Theroy(The Show)

So one of the biggest guilty pleasure I have is liking TBBT. Although I'm never really sure how bad I should feel about it. On one hand a lot of it's jokes come from tired stereotypes about geeks, The characters are also walking stereotypes, and it never really dose much to push people perceptions or geek culture. On the other hand I'm a sucker for the "Two best friends sharing a apartment, sitcom adventure" shtick, and I do think they moved away from stereotyping the characters in the later season. Wolowitz is a good example. He's the pervy "OMG he never had a sexual encounter that didn't involve money or a 10-15 Mbps internet connection" nerd, but he ended up in a stable(for a sitcom) marriage. And as much as they use geek culture as the punchline, they are also giving it representation in the prime time spotlight.
How do you all feel about the show?

Talking about stereotypes in this show.. they are true.

I visit a gaming shop quite regularly (1-2 times a week for some gaming) and i have encountered nearly all traits displayed by the guys in the show (with the exception of a Sheldon, that guy is just out there).

Part of the dislike within the "nerd community" is that it seems to poke fun at them in a kind of "Haha... look at these uncool geeks!" and it may come off as demeaning or just plain mean. I don't see it like this.. the guys are passionate about their hobbies and friends, have varied characters and none of them are stereotypes because that's how some people just are (you could take sports fans and show them as loud, opinionated, drunk jocks.. every culture has its character types and can be made fun of).

As to the show itself.. the first 3 seasons were truly stellar and it's what made the show the huge comedy success it is today.

Seasons 4-6 saw a change to become more mainstream comedy with less science jokes and more relationship and interpersonal comedy, often enough not that funny as in previous seasons but from season 6 onwards the show improved again (all this only in my opinion).

It's now in a very good place and it's also not afraid to shake up the status quo once in a while, usually for season finales. The current one had a big change and i can't wait to see how it resolves next week when the show resumes.

I personally love a good laugh at myself. I'm more bothered by the laziness of the "comedy" on BBT. That's just my opinion of it of course, not a statement of fact.

I think the show is hilarious and I'm a big fan.

I may be biased by Kaley Cuoco...

I think its funny but my biggest gripe is is the way it portrays women as either being afraid of or put off by geeks. A lot of women who watch that show ARE geeks and some of us have been this way for a long time.

:sigh:

Apart from that I like it.

I do know one guy who HATES it. He's big into Star Wars and to be honest is nothing like the so called typical geek guy so I suppose he doesn't want to be mistaken for one of 'those' kind of fans.

I love it to pieces.

I do miss the earlier seasons when they had more science jokes and genre jokes. I guess as the show became more popular, they had to get more understandable for the general audience.

I wish Kaley hadn't cut her hair. Beautiful actresses never seem to learn the lessons of the past - though yes, you are still beautiful with short cute hair, you are even more beautiful with long beautiful hair.

There was a time I was obsessed with this show. Being a Wil Wheaton fan, his first appearance on the show is what pulled me in, and I watched it for several seasons. But, as often happens to me with sitcoms, I eventually just tired of it. The problem with sitcoms is that they can't really evolve too much away from the original premise, and that ultimately bores me. I've always preferred dramas to sitcoms anyway.

I never found the show demeaning to us geeks and nerds though. I thought it was a rather endearing portrayal.

I absolutely hate it.

Both my girlfriend and flatmate love it but I'm absolutely mystified at the allure of it. Sheldon absolutely does my head in as well.

I find it extremely mediocre and mostly unfunny. But at least two of my closest friends love the damn thing so I still have to sit through episodes of it from time to time.

I liked it for awhile, but the last two seasons have been pretty bad. I won't be watching the upcoming season.

I still watch it but the earlier seasons were better. I don't even notice laugh tracks anymore. I guess that I just tune them out.
