How do we know it's Delta-Vega?

In the Trek Today article about the new TV spot, it's mentioned that the ice cave is on Delta-Vega. This caught me by surprise, and I was curious where that bit of information came from. Are we to assume this is the same world where Gary Mitchell was stranged in the second pilot?

I think this is one of those references for TOS fans. Evidently, Delta Vega is the planet of choice for dumping undesirables.

I believe the ice planet was also identified as Delta Vega in the Esurance Trek related site and a Trek flash game on that same site.

But I bet you can't reist making a lithium crack.

Sorry, there are bits of canon I choose to ignore and or change. Therefore I assume all referances to lithium are in fact supposed to be dilithium.

Considering the hardline attitude I have towards other aspects of canon, this post may seem like I'm practicing a double-standard. Well, that's life.

Maybe it's just me, but when I hear "Delta-Vega" I think of "Macho Grande" as in:

Witness: I'll never forget that night we bombed Macho Grande. Striker was our squadron leader.
He brought us in real low, but he couldn't handle it.
Lawyer: Buddy couldn't handle it? Was Buddy one of your crew?
Witness: Right -- Buddy was our Bombadier, but it was Striker who couldn't handle it...and he went to pieces.
Lawyer: Andy went to pieces?
Witness: No! Andy was the Navigator; he was alright. Buddy went to pieces...it was awful how he came unglued.
Lawyer: Howie came unglued?
Witness: Oh no...Howie was a rock; the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued.
Lawyer: And he bailed out?
Witness: No! Andy hung tough; Buddy bailed out. How we survived...it was a miracle.
Lawyer: Then Howie survived?
Witness: No, afraid not. We lost Howie the next day.
Lawyer: Over Macho Grande?
Witness: No...I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

It's not lithium. It's 'lithium.

Dilithium slang.

All the cool, long-haired, Spinoza-readers are using it. :rommie:

From here:

Play ‘Erin’s Mission to Delta Vega’
Special Agent Erin Esurance is a character that Esurance uses in their TV and online advertising, and now their hero is taking on Trek. The game, designed by W!ildbrain studios, puts Erin on a mission to locate missing Starfleet Officer Keenser while fighting off hostile alien life forms on the planet Delta Vega (a planet first seen in the pilot for Star Trek "Where No Man has Gone Before").

[...]

Game gives clues to new Star Trek movie
And by playing the game, you may learn something about the film….
[SPOILERS BELOW]

TrekMovie.com has been told that the content in the game is from the actual movie. So when you combine these tidbits from the game, including some of the names, with previous reporting (like the 20 minute preview), we get a clearer picture of a portion of the movie. Firstly ‘Delta Vega’ is a real location in the film itself, and in fact we have already seen it, described as the ‘frozen planet’ or ‘the ice planet.’
The screencap and analysis item for the most recent TV spot from TrekMovie also identifies the ice planet as Delta Vega.

Are we to assume this is the same world where Gary Mitchell was stranged in the second pilot?
See underlined text above.

Procutus "wonder if we'll get to see an undated version of that famous matte painting."

Well, I don't know if this has been mentioned anywhere, but I was thinking that the 'industrial location' we saw among the first pics to be released (the one w/the shuttle) might be also be on Delta Vega, as it reminded me of that Matte pinting right off the bat?

You're talking about these, I'm guessing, from the Lebec power station shooting location:

I hadn't thought about it at the time those pics first appeared, but yeah, the red uniforms do raise a few questions about the possibility of it being Delta Vega.
