He was the chosen one and all that.

On the one hand you might say it was his proximity to the wormhole that caused him to have the visions, but that shouldn't matter - as we saw later in the series, the prophets could reach many light years across space and initiate a contact with him pretty much wherever he was. Even when he was inside a starship proceeding at warp speed. IIRC he had a vision while on Earth too. And of course the prophet that possessed his mother traveled to earth, so they definitely aren't stuck in the wormhole.

But it certainly seems that when he turned up at Ds9 and promptly got his first vision, that it was something that had never happened before.

Probably so he wouldn't be locked in a psych ward before being exposed to the Bajoran religion.

But seriously, we don't know for sure he didn't. He could have had them when he was a kid and simply brushed them off as dreams.

But I do agree, I think that he probably didn't because he was not required to until he became the station commander of DS9. Remember that the Prophets are non linear, therefore they knew Sisko was going to be there. It's also possible that he chose/accepted the assignment because he was drawn to that area as the result of being the child of a Prophet/Human symbiosis.

The prophets probably also guided him in other more subtle ways that he wouldn't have noticed. Like an encouragement to join Starfleet. And they were probably helping him at Wolf 359 to make sure he escaped the Saratoga too.

Of course in the pilot the prophets didn't know who, or what, Sisko was, and it was only later that they rolled out the whole choosen one thing. The Bajorans all seemed to know that he was special, though, probably because of his strong p'ah.
