On the one hand you might say it was his proximity to the wormhole that caused him to have the visions, but that shouldn't matter - as we saw later in the series, the prophets could reach many light years across space and initiate a contact with him pretty much wherever he was. Even when he was inside a starship proceeding at warp speed. IIRC he had a vision while on Earth too. And of course the prophet that possessed his mother traveled to earth, so they definitely aren't stuck in the wormhole.
But it certainly seems that when he turned up at Ds9 and promptly got his first vision, that it was something that had never happened before.
