How are you surviving 2009?

Taking a page from a recent DWM, with no new DW series this year and interminable breaks between Specials, how are you getting your Doctor Who fix? DVD? Books? Audio Adventures? Comics? Spin-offs? Building a TARDIS?

Me, I'll be continuing to read my DWMs and very shortly I'll start re-watching the new series again from the start. And it's been a while since I got an audio, so it may be time to revisit the 8th Doctor again.

Primeval is helping to fill the gap, Torchwood would help more if they produced more episode, but I am surviving.

the back half of Fringe, Heroes volume 4, Ashes to Ashes season 2, Primeval season 3, TSCC season 2's second half and Robin Hood season 3 have filled my days.

I voted "Other". I've been watching re-runs of NuWho on PBS every weekend. They stopped showing Classic Who, which broke my heart, so now I only see half as much Who as I was before. There's only a few NuWho episodes I've missed but it's still fun to watch.

I've gone into Doctor Who Hibernation Mode until the next special comes out. I've watched my DVDs so many times they've worn a groove in my eyeballs, so I'm going cold turkey for a while.

Me too, I've not watched any Who since the last special, and before that it was the Christmas Special. I've had to stop getting the classic DVDs thanks to a lack of cash, so I've been more or less Doctorless. I think I'm still recovering from watching the whole Trial set in about three days in all honesty. I'll definitely get The War Games and the Pertwee Dalek stories when they come out.

Old DVDs, particularly from the William Hartnell & Patrick Troughton years. I recently finished "The Aztecs" and I'm now a quarter of the way into "Tomb of the Cybermen."

DVD's for me. So far in 2009 I've picked up Remembrance of the Daleks, The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Mind Robber, Inferno, The Three Doctors, The Infinite Quest, and the E-Space Trilogy. My DVD purchase was my first time to see each of these stories. I've also rewatched Series Four. I plan on getting a few more DVD's throughout the year.

There's a law of the universe that says that Doctor Who & Star Trek cannot occupy the same point in time simultaneously. Think about it! The Original Series did overlap with the Patrick Troughton years but I don't think Brits & Yanks were aware of each others' franchises at that point. And the Troughton episodes are mostly lost now. Then Doctor Who got cancelled in 1989 right around the time that The Next Generation was starting to come into its own. There was hardly any Doctor Who from 1989-2005 while Star Trek flourished with 6 movies and 4 TV shows. There was the Paul McGann movie in 1996 but it didn't do so well, and no wonder when it's coming out in the same year as First Contact. Enterprise gets cancelled in 2005 right when Doctor Who comes back with Christopher Eccleston. And in 2009 with J.J. Abrams' Star Trek revival, Doctor Who conveniently goes into hiatus. Coincidence? I think not!

Classic dvds and the comics. Also, going back over the DWM magazines and reading articles I'd skipped the first time through. I've got #383 and 385 through the current issue. Still need to get my hands on #384. Also have all the Torchwood magazines except #2, and haven't read any of those yet. So I've got plenty to keep me occupied.

Would have been funnier if you said "That was a joke, I went cold turkey on Who".
Surprising as it may seem, I don't actually have to do anything to get by without new Who. Apart from cry myself to sleep on a saturday night.

That's why Trek XI was delayed from its original Christmas 2008 release. Since there was going to be a new Doctor Who special that day (The Next Doctor) there couldn't be new Who and new Trek released on the same day!
