How about a post ST XI Kelvin series?

I've been thinking... The single-nacelle design of the ship is awesome and the name "Kelvin" is nice and catchy.

So how about a show set after the events of ST XI, featuring the new, slightly updated USS Kelvin NCC 0514 - A?

I liked Kelvin's bridge quite a bit, especially the three-part viewscreen, so I wouldn't change the general configuration (all the stations and consoles would remain where they were), but the bridge itself would be slightly larger (more spacious), and the industrial look would be replaced by updated, JJ-prise like aesthetic (without the bar code readers :D).

Also, someone once mentioned something (dunno if there's any truth to that at all) about Angela Basset being Brian Fullers personal choice to play the captain in the new series he's been proposing. One hell of a choice If you ask me!

Your thoughts, people?

A refit Kelvin? Hmm. There's an idea. It is beyond the 'in the past' ENT series. The interior sets could be taken out of storage from Star Trek XI and redressed.

Brian Fuller also said this:
I want Rosario Dawson. She would be an interesting lead that wouldn’t have to be a captain. I just find her infectiously charming. The captains are always so tough in terms of who they would be. There’s ethnicity, gender and all these factors to consider. Angela Bassett as a captain would rock my boat, though.

A film star at the level of Rosario Dawson doing at least 2 years of TV on a Trek series would be a stretch. Yes a series would go on but her contract would probably only be for 2 or 3 years.

Yeah, Rosario would kick ass, but there's just too much of a star power behind her to get her.

Angela Basset already played a spaceship commander in "Supernova" which was dreadful, but she did more than okay. She really radiates authority ("Contact"), and looks pretty awesome for a 51 year old.

Mach5 you are mistaken. In Supernova on the Search and Rescue ship "Nightingale 229" the captain and pilot were Robert Forster character A.J. Marley
Angela Bassett's character Dr. Kaela Evers was a medical officer.

The co-pilot (James Spader) would have officially become the person in charge upon A.J. Marley's death. [spoiler, oh no! like anyone is actually going to watch the film for it's plot...]

the captain is killed, leaving newcomer Nick Vanzant (James Spader, Crash, Critical Care) in charge.

Wow, thanks for correcting me! Its been years since I've seen that movie, and I only remember fragments, like Lou Diamond Phillips and Robyn Tunney having sex in zero-g! :D

Please, no refit...let's have a PRE-ST XI Kelvin series. If, of course, Faran Tahir would be willing. You can't have Kelvin without The Robau!

I whole-heartedly agree with you, if you do the USS Kelvin it has got to be with Captain Rabou and Lieutenant George Kirk with his wife, characters are what drives Star Trek, when it focuses on technology alone (remember all that techno-babble in Voyager :vulcan:, BLEK!), technology based stories make for good short stories but are awful as the basis for anything longer, and even the good tech based stories in Trek have been character driven, the bad ones weren't about the characters in the story and were just lifeless.

That would be cool, sure... But since we already know what happens to Robau, Kirk and CO, that show would have to begin at least 7-8 years before Nero's attack, and even then we'd know that there would be no happy endings for these people.

I guess Tahir would be up for taking a lead role in such a show, but getting Chris Hemsworth now that he's been cast as Thor doesn't sound realistic.

I love the idea of the prequel series. It would be interesting to see how this version of the trek universe was, prior to Nero's arrival.

The idea of doing a series set before the new movie with Robau as Captain wouldn't work, and it wouldn't go down well with the studio or JJ Abrams. We'd be going back into the territory of the known, 'we know what happens to this character and this character etc, we know that they must live through this adventure because they are alive in the new Star Trek film" and so on.

Yeah, but plenty of shows have gone into the territory of the known without us knowing what would happen to the characters - like Voyager!

"wasn't this an episode of TNG?"

"SHHH!"

If you set the series in the prime universe, you could back up to the point Robau and Kirk were both on the Kelvin, then move forward from there. When years later, if the show is still on the air, they arrive at the point in time that Star Trek Eleven takes place, this could happen:

Robau is captain, Kirk is first officer. The Kelvin is carrying a large number of refugees (your father saved 800 lives) Kirk's wife is just about to give birth, she a member of the crew or a refugee. The ship doesn't have familys. The ship is drawn to a disturbance, but it's nothing but a sensor blip, like the ending of "Yesterdays Enterprise". Robau is briefly interested, then orders a resumption of course to drop the refugees at a nearby star base. The episode ends with the happy birth of first officers Kirk's son. Next week the series continues with a new adventure.

Just an idea.

Sounds interesting enough... But the way I see it, the prime universe is the thing of the past, dead and buried.

Unless she were already a Trek fan like Whoopie Goldberg who just basically called the production team for TNG and declared: "I'm available to play any role."

While they may not get Ms. Dawson specifically (but I love the fact that her name is being thrown around at this stage --it means they're on the right track), they could get a great number of high-profile actors, writers, directors, etc just by word of mouth.

Rosario Dawson has said her Trek dream job is to be a Klingon. She could be great as a recurring foe for whoever our Starfleet captain is going to be.
