House MD

Rewatching this show. It’s on Prime.

Basic premise is pain med addict House guesses a bunch of times what might wrong with patients, nearly kills them, and then saves the day at the end of the episode. Plots mostly boring.

But the best bits are his interactions with his employees, his boss, and his best friend. That’s where the gold is in these episodes.

The medical A plots are convoluted, overproduced (hokey 2000s era TV CGI, etc) , and often ridiculous enough to not be boring most of the time.

I caught it on Channel 5 in bits and pieces from many, many years ago, but re-watching it almost religiously on Amazon Prims.

Check out the old House episode threads Trekker4747 used to do., in this forum when it was still on the air. The OP usually (if not always) had a link to a RL doctor who would do online reviews after watching each episode. You might enjoy reading some of them. Just don't necro them :bolian:

What if we all bum rushed it so you couldn't tell??? ;)

The show was addictive, but I can't imagine rewatching it. House was horribly unlikable, a childish bully, and as the seasons went on became a ridiculous cartoon of himself who should have been locked away in an asylum forever.
Favorite lines you could count on hearing in almost every episode:
"He's seizing!"
"Could be Lupus"
"It's not Lupus."

Differential diagnosis in a monster truck. Yeah. Pull this idiot's license (medical AND driving).

You must hate Breaking Bad and Rick and Morty.

For me House is objectively a bad person, but he's one in a likable way. He's fun to watch and he says the things we don't want to hear about how human beings operate. And he's objectively a positive force in the universe despite himself. He's relatable because he refuses to deal with all the crap we grin and deal with every day because we don't want to cause a scene.

What I've heard about the realism of the show is the actual diagnoses are realistic but the medical process is extremely unrealistic.

It actually was Lupus one time. A magician who got a false blood type reading because of lupus.

I LOVE House so much (my profile pic on TikTok is wilson lol), Chases ending makes me insane but to be honest so House’s and Wilson’s. Most shows I watch I watch mainly for character interaction rather than plot so House is perfect (plus it’s hugh laurie and RSL and i’m a dead poets and fry & laurie fan). This show does NOT get enough attention, I love that it’s a sherlock adaption too.

I could go on about this show especially but i shan’t lmao

I'd throw Law and Order (and its spinoffs) in that mix as well.

House MD didn't quite last anywhere near as stupidly long as either of those 3 franchises, but there's a popular consensus that House MD was great until Season 5-ish then kinda outstayed its welcome and got even more silly in its last couple of seasons (though it doesn't sound like the horrifically spectacular last season implosions we got with GoT and US HoC).

Since I'm not stupid, I'm just slow, I never made the connection to Sherlock Holmes until it was pointed out to me (probably here).

House = Holmes, right down to the addiction
Wilson = Watson

Solving mysteries the rest of the mere mortals cannot figure out.

I love it because House also lives at 221B as a throw in because it’s a loose adaption :)

I did not know that. Learn something new every time I come here to TrekBBS.

The first full episode of House that I ever saw was "House vs. God". I was hooked after watching it. Of course, House bested "God", aka teenage faith healer. I remember House kept score on a whiteboard in his competition against "God". Science over superstition, I suppose.

The show and character were really entertaining, even though I never liked House. House was an a-hole.

My wife recently started to rewatch it, and I've been watching over her shoulder. Not the biggest fan of the character, which I'm sure is the point, blah, blah, blah. The diagnoses are pure drama, of course.

But, the way House looks at humanity is probably the more interesting foil. He is selfish, but also notes that human nature is fundamentally flawed in some way, and he can use it to his advantage at times. His defense mechanisms against people getting close are interesting.

Overall, surprising that I actually am enjoying the rewatch. Didn't want to since my wife binged it during her first pregnancy and I was quite over it by the time she was done.
