House: 6x18 "Knightfall" - Discussion and Spoilers

If nothing else, he did seem to be taking an awful lot of ibuprofen, probably beyond the maximum recommended dosage. If so, he's putting himself at increased risk of gastric bleeding, heart attack, or stroke.
The recommended dosage on the bottle, two 200mg pills every four hours, is 20-percent of the prescription dosage, which is two 1000mg pills every four hours. House isn't stupid; he's not going to OD on OTC Advil. ;)

And House's philosophy is probably not that dissimilar to mine (and that of some friends of mine) -- take the large doses and deal with the pain now, and deal with the damage the large doses can do later. (When I've had very bad migraines, I've been known to take aspirin, Tylenol, and Advil near-simultaneously; I'll take one, then ninety minutes later take the next, and so on. Wise? Probably not. Deals with the pain? Absosmurfly.)

^I know from recent experience that the prescription dosage is 2400 mg/dy, twice the maximum recommended on the bottle (no more than six per day). It's standard for the maximum recommended dose on OTC medications to be half the prescription dosage.

And yes, House is stupid when it comes to drugs. If he limited himself to medically responsible dosages, he never would've become a vicodin addict in the first place.

"Pain can make us do stupid things, fear of pain makes us almost as stupid." - Dr. Gregory House.

There really aren't any easy answers when it comes to House's leg pain. I wonder what the writers will do next, though. Could they have House finally take the amputation plunge? And would that remove the pain, or is much of the pain psychological (due to the removal of leg tissue and/or long-term vicodin withdrawal issues)?

There is another factor not considered here. Last week he confessed that Lydia had "changed" him, I wonder in what way ?

He has been seen to be taking some steps to improve his life this season.

Probably too expensive to do the digital leg removal on a weekly basis. Unless Hugh Laurie is really committed to the part... ;)

Well, wasn't that shown in the season premiere? Her influence was one of the factors that helped him reform himself. Okay, it was getting that one guy almost killed that forced him to realize he had to take the therapy seriously, but it was her relationship with him that helped him move in the right direction.

Oh, I dunno. They probably would just have a story arc featuring amputation and therapy, then he'd get a prosthetic and it'd be like he never lost his leg.

They could do an amputation. I had a coach in high school that had an amputated leg. Except for a bit of a limp he walked around normally and when he wore pants you really couldn't tell it was fake.

I know! House could lose his leg and then get help from a specialist he knows -- Dr. Rudy Wells! "We have the technology. We can create the world's first bionic jackass."

That could work -- Laurie doesn't enjoy working with the cane. :)

I thought this week's and last week's were a marked improvement over the crap we've been getting since the fall (with a few exceptions).
