Hopeful Not Too OT question

When posting fic here and elsewhere, I find that, when I cut and then paste, the lines between paragraphs vanish, forcing me to separate them again in the box. Call me a fool, tell me its like so obvious, but please also tell me how to make documents cut from MS Word keep the spacing I set up in the original document. I did look at the other forums before doing this. The only one other than this seemed to be Misc, and I've had a lack of civil responses in the past on that. Thanks for any help, and sorry if this is just plain wrong to post in FF.

On AdAstra, under "Account Info" there's the option called "Edit Preferences". Under that, you can select the option to use the WYSWYG editor. It doesn't automatically work if you use FireFox as your browser. You have to go change some preferences there, but if you do that, then at least over there your document will have the same spacing it does in Word. I didn't know, either, until Nerys told me about it.

I don't think I've had the formatting issue on this board, but I use OpenOffice, not MS Word. Could it be the web browser you're using?

I've never had that problem here, either. But yes, you have to change your preferences at AdAstra -- I have to admit, I couldn't figure out how to do it and I think I had Miranda Fave turn WYSIWYG on for me (stands for "What you see is what you get" in case you're wondering) because he has administrator access. I can be a little technically dense at times.

What I want to know is why my italics and bolding no longer copy over either here or at AdAstra. I have to go and do it all by hand now, and I always miss things and have to edit ... it used to work in Firefox, and now it doesn't, and it doesn't work in Opera, either.

I believe you have to have a full empty line in between paragraphs in your word processor in order for the forum to maintain it. It's not enough to just use the automatic line spacing.

As I write everything with a paragraph tab, my trick has always been to tell Word to replace all tabs with manual line breaks once I'm ready to post. That's a one minute job. The document itself remains saved in my original formatting.
