"Honor Among Thieves" = Donnle Brasco?

I actually didn't think this up. Credit goes to my mother, who last spring had seen Donnie Brasco, the classic gangster film wherein Johnny Depp explains once and for all exactly what "Fuggedabout it!" means.

Anyway, last summer, we all watched "Honor Among Thieves", wherein O'Brien goes undercover for SI, to take down a Syndicate ring.

Mom swears up and down that the storyline--in particular, Miles's relationship with Bilby--is a direct rip-off of Donnie.

(Come to think of it, Bilby kinda resembles Robert De Niro....)

Anyway, I have yet to watch the film...but those of you who have...does "Honor" strike you as a direct homage? The DS9 Companion is silent on the idea....

Yeah, it has the same theme. However, it wasn't Deniro, it was AlPacino. Not an original storyline, but still good nonetheless.

I just watched this episode again last night, and in reading the comments for the review on Jammer's page, this comparison was brought up. Interesting how things work like that.

It's a great story that deals with concequenses, and shows how far the theme has developed from the classic series; as do many DS9 and NG episodes.

Yes, when it was first aired I had seen Donnie Brasco, and it was painful to know that a good episode was stolen from a popular movie. Never thought of the film as "classic" though...
