Honk if you love Trek?

I was interested in people talking about how Trekkies feel embarrassed to admit their interest in Trek publicly.
Well, everyone who knows Trek knows the vulcan salute. :vulcan:
"In his autobiography I Am Not Spock, Nimoy wrote that he based it on the Priestly Blessing performed by Jewish Kohanim with both hands, thumb to thumb in this same position, representing the Hebrew letter Shin (ש), which has three upward strokes similar to the position of the thumb and fingers in the salute. The letter Shin here stands for Shaddai, meaning "Almighty (God)", and has a special significance in Judaism."

And over the centuries, many societies have used secret handshakes or actions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_fish
...when a Christian met a stranger in the road, the Christian sometimes drew one arc of the simple fish outline in the dirt. If the stranger drew the other arc, both believers knew they were in good company. Current bumper-sticker and business-card uses of the fish hearken back to this practice. The symbol is still used today to show that the bearer is a practicing Christian. Christianity Today, Elesha Coffman, "Ask the Editors"[7]

What sign or action could Star Trek fans use to identify themselves to each other?

Imagine that CBS Paramount have sent out private investigators to find where the truest of the true Star Trek fans are hiding. How would they identify who they are?

I love Star Trek, and I don't care a bit if everyone knows! If you don't like it, you should be kissing my ass! Thats how I feel.

I don't hide it, but I sort of let it out in stages with friends and girlfriends. Reference it here or there, talk about it gradually until one day, when I feel comfortable enough with them I show them the trek room. (I have a spare bedroom that I call my trek room, it has a tv, all my dvds, my ships, my autographs, kirk cardboard cutout, action figures, etc...). This way its not like a deal breaker for the friendship or relationship, and they can be semi-ok with it. Idealy I'll find a girl who's not only semi-ok with it, but comes out of the Trek closet to me as well. Ah but a guy can only dream.

Everyone I'm friends with is just as nerdy as I am.. if it's not Trek it's something else.. I don't care what anyone else thinks about it either..

I'm practically in the Trek-closet. Only my best friends and my family knows my affinity for Trek. It'll be fun explaining to my roommates next May why I'm going to the movies wearing a sombrero.

What? No secret handshakes or wink of the eye?

But how do you guys identify each other as Trek lovers at conventions and office parties?

Chuckling

I don't go around shouting "I love Star Trek!" from the rooftops but I am not ashamed of being a fan. It's less of a problem for me since I'm a software engineer and Star Trek fandom is quite common amongst people in my profession.

While the blue skin often goes unnoticed, the antennae are a real give away!
That line of yours (and my vivid imagination) just made my day! Thanks for that.
I for one have used the Vulcan salute ever since I got to know it in the early 70s as a greeting to friends and family - though somewhat less stoic in execution that the typical Vulcan would do. Whether the others connect it to Star Trek or not, I don't really care. Oh - I just remembered: I wear tapered sideburns, too.

While I like Star Trek and consider myself to be a fan, I don't like to go overboard. Only my family and good friends know I'm a Trekkie.

My friends and relatives know that I like Star Trek. But I don't bellow it out to the whole world. If someone asks me about the subject, I admit that I like the show very much. No reason to hide it. I do have a Voyager T-shirt with a picture of the crew which I wear from time to time.

In the country where I live, Star Trek is a small but accepted thing with some cult status. I haven't met any negative reactions for liking it, on the contrary, I'm constantly running into people who admit that they like the show, even if they are not "super-fans" like me. 3-4 of my friends are very much into Star Trek but they also like Star Wars and Stargate. One is an ardent TOS freak which is a bit surprising because he's a rather young guy.

As for how we should identify ourselves, I don't know. If I happen to wear that Voyager T-shirt they will know but otherwise. Maybe I should try to create a ring with the TNG combadge or a similar logo on something. Or maybe a tattoo of Kes on my left arm :techman:. But that would be difficult to show up in winter. I guess I have to think about it.

I do use the Vulcan salute from time to time. I always visit a small cafe on Saturdays where some of my friends, among them some of those friends who also like Star Trek and SF shows up from time to time and sometimes I do use the Vulcan salute to greet them.
