I think the power requirements for those kind of things might keep their maximum effective size down to at least what could be mounted an an armored vehicle. There are advantages.Hard to outrun a beam of light, and using beam weapons for anti-missile technology might eventually become so effective that modern missiles go the way of the Congreve rocket.

For home expermenters, one thing I'm suprised is that no one has tried to build their own Gyrojet weapons and ammo. A recent test (I will embed) with some remaining ammo shows that some of the faults of the gyrojets still holds up but beyond contact range, they become pretty effective. Quality control would be better now, even for a home builder, for new versions of the ammo and the gyrojet pistrols and carbines themselves are so simple they really do not require special materials. The delivery system can be done in aluminum and plastic.

In the end its still incredibly expensive rocket ammo fired from a cheap hand held launcher, but it's a rocket gun. so its interesting.
