HOLY CRAP! TRANSPARENT ALUMINUM ID REAL!!!

Cool article, but I don't care what you're wearing - even if a Barrett doesn't penetrate this new armor, the shock to the system after being hit by something like that would probably break most bones simultaneously and liquefy internal organs. Probably much better to let it go through at that point - much less painful.

Whether we like it or now, it is bound to come every so often. It also reflects on the porr scientific knwoledge of the ordinary citizen.

Sometimes, it just writes itself. :)

I think, though, this is really one of those cases where sugar works more than vinegar. If you decide that the proper response is to fire into the breach, don't be too surprised when the guy you're trying to 'educate' dismisses you outright as nothing but a pompous asshole.

Not everyone is fully versed in chemistry or the basic sciences in general. People forget most of the stuff they learned in secondary school because they don't use it.

They shouldn't be blamed for it, treated poorly, or be talked down too. That being said, there's nothing wrong with explaining something, or correcting someone. It's how it's done that matters.
Thank you...

A simple explanatory response would have sufficed as opposed to the lecture that reminds me of why I stopped going to Trek Conventions.

As the man said, I have no chemistry background other than what I learned in High School but it doesn't mean I'm a fucking idiot either. I do get the concepts and as I said, I watched the whole show. And it's a little disingenuous to bust my balls over calling it transparent aluminum when there are a lot of chemical compounds that go buy more recognized names for the masses. Fuck me already... should I start calling aspirin acetylsalicylic acid?

All of my education is in law for which I could talk circles around the chemistry geeks. The difference is I would at least attempt to be polite about it and not come off, as pointed out, like a pompous asshole.
