I'm not even supposed to be here today.
Of course, people expect Superman's grandfather to look like a young Henry Cavill. His father can look like Russell Crowe, but his grandfather must look exactly like him.

Even disregarding race, Johns' reasoning is ridiculous.

We don’t know how genetics work for Superman’s race. Dark skin could be a recessive trait for him.

Hollywood has plenty of imagination, just its marketing department rips it out and bashes it with a shovel until it stops moving.

Or perhaps Kryptonian skin tones change throughout their life cycles (white, black, green, pink, white again, etc).

Well, in that photo Page looks an awful lot like Cavil.

Hollywood doesn't lack imagination so much as its investors tend to lack a spine. They want surefire 100% hits that will appeal to the largest possible audience, which means as little "controversy" as possible. There's also the tried and true racism and white supremacy that still reigns in most corners of the corporate culture that makes up Hollywood's box office decision makers.

Unrelated side note: Regé-Jean Page is a snack.
