Every author has their opinions inside the story they wrote. I believe that Hollywood, and most agree, does a poor job with the technical side of science fiction. I am a retired engineer with nearly 30 years in missile and aircraft development for the US Air Force. Using this experience, I have designed a fighter, heavy cruiser, and other spacecraft, that are 'practical' in concept. Although I am going to refer to my website for technical reasons and not to sell my book. The site is UnitedWorldsAuthority.com. At the end of the 107 sample are several pictures of the fighter and the other spacecraft. Some of the rational for these designs is explained on YouTube within United Worlds Authority for YouTube. My basic complaint hinges on 'practically and functionality' of the Star Trek and Star Wars designs. The fighters have NO flight surfaces, yet are supposed to be atmosphere capable. The space only craft have an abundance of windows. I worked for General Dynamic's Electric Boat (submarines). Those war-craft function in a high pressure environment and windows would be a major liability. Spacecraft exist in zero pressure and windows would also be a very bad idea. Also, having each compartment hanging from an extension support, is risky. I would like to an place JPG pictures here, but they are with "Pictures" of "My Documents". Several make fantastic screen savers. I also hate roads/interstates since in 1993 my wife and I almost died on I-90 in NY, but that is another discussion on what I believe is a viable alternative. Private homes should be at least 60% underground. The insulation advantage of 4 to 5 feet of soil/rock is marvelous. I am in process of makes pictures of these structures. Looking forward to hearing from you.
