"Hoarders" on A&E

Season 2 of Hoarders on A&E pulled in 3.2 million viewers, breaking all A&E records for a season opener.

To me, Hoarders is the most disturbing program on TV. Almost every episode is about seemingly nice people whose lives have gone completely to hell because they couldn't control their need for stuff. A&E has done a good thing by financing the therapists and counselors who help the hoarders; almost every episode from Season 1 ended happily, with people restoring their homes and finding new hope. Some episodes did not end so well, with folks abandoning cleanup efforts after several days because they couldn't handle the emotional cost of getting rid of junk. Sad but true.

Sad when the human brain isn't wired correctly or just comes undone...

I find the show difficult to watch at times, but it does motivate me to straighten up my own home.

I just started watching recently, and I agree that's it very disturbing. It's sad to see how much anxiety springs up in these people over the smallest piece of trash...trash! Like the woman who had a meltdown after the garbage men threw away a broken tile because she could have possibly glued it back together. Or when the maid mopped the floor because she needed to go through every piece of trash on the floor herself. It's sad when their homes are deemed uninhabitable by the county yet they still see nothing wrong with it. It was very sad hearing from the mother who, after her daughter pleaded with her to choose the people in her life over her stuff, said, "well you aren't here with me everyday, but my stuff is, so I'm not getting rid of it." As if stuff can "be there" for you.

This is the first time I even heard of it.... Doesn't sound like something I'd be interested in. Of course I never found Intervention all that interesting either, let alone Dog the Bounty Hunter.

If I wanted to watch Hulk Hogan run around acting like the Law, I'd go back and watch Suburban Commando.
