This one isn't subtle at all, though, is it?

That's got to be one of the lamest "Hitler reacts" ever.

Two beats you got to get right - the failed attempt of the woman in the corridor to comfort her weeping comrade, and Hitler's last throwaway line. Both were duds, here.

There's too much gee inside-joke stuff here. It's not the worst example of that, thought. Hitler's reaction to the GT500 is probably the most pointlessly insider/"homer" variation:

I thought "Hitler reacts to Iron Man 3" was funny. Reacts to STID, not.

I haven't even seen most of the Hitler reacts videos to know how common this is, but about the first real problem I had with this one was it turned the "leave the room now" line into "fuck off now", as if whoever wrote the dialog for this was already bored with the format.

One of the things that makes these (the ones I've seen) funny is staying in character, making the dialog seem in some sense plausible as a transposition of discussing the movie into Hitler's bunker, and not turning it into self-parody. Going straight for what the South Park kids might say isn't staying in character. Buzzkill's comment about the last line fits this pattern, I think.

Downfall ("Der Untergang"). A very well-made German movie about Hitler's insane last days.

I think both films were based largely on the same book.

They share one book to a considerable degree, but Downfall also relied on a wider set of sources, some of which were not available when the earlier film was made (30 years apart).
