‘The Center Seat: 55 Years Of Star Trek’: History Channel Sets 8-Part Docuseries From The Nacelle Company

EXCLUSIVE: The Nacelle Company is boldly going where no man has gone before. Today it unveiled The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek, an eight-episode limited docuseries that it will produce for History Channel.

Created and directed by Nacelle founder and CEO, Brian Volk-Weiss, The Center Seat is described as the ultimate deep dive into the world of Star Trek. Timed to coincide with the iconic sci-fi franchise’s 55th anniversary this year, it will offer Trekkies a behind-the-scenes look at pivotal moments in the franchise’s history — from its inception at Lucille Ball’s production company Desilu through recent film and television adaptations.

Oh good: I'm not watching enough TV...

I'm going to try to guess the eight parts...

Part 1: TOS
Part 2: The '70s
Part 3: TOS Movies
Part 4: TNG
Part 5: DS9 & VOY
Part 6: ENT
Part 7: Abrams Movies
Part 8: Disco & Picard
This seems like the most logical breakdown of episodes/phases of Trek history to me. At any rate, I'm excited!

It would be cool to see some attention given to Trek zine culture and people like John and Bjo Trimble, Jacqueline Lichtenberg, Jean Lorrah and all the others who helped keep fandom alive in the franchise's wilderness years.

I’d be really interested in an in depth look into the 70’s and all the false starts and never-were pitches, plus the blooming of fandom and the convention circuit through the syndication of TOS.

Really nice to see something happening in terms of ‘legacy’ for the 55th. I just wonder how rose tinted it’d be. I doubt for instance that a Voyager themed doc would get into the nastiness that went on between Mulgrew and Ryan too much, or that a TOS themed episode would have all the gripes about Roddenberry doing all the rewrites. I guess as an anniversary themed celebratory series it’ll focus on the positives which is fair enough.

I find Trek documentaries generally to be very saccharine. I hope they can strike a balance between sugar and spice as it were.

This is kind of astounding...I don't believe any franchise has had a whole docu-series dedicated to it.

Guesses:

1. Proto-TOS to the Animated series
2. Lost Years and TMP
3. TOS Movies
4. TNG
5. DS9-ENT
6. TNG movies
7. Kelvin
8. CBSAA-P+

I would love to see the older TOS documentaries rescued from VHS oblivion or recut into a new expansive TOD doc.
