Hillary Clinton is Secretary of State

He probably misheard it as "We're going to have to have Oprah examine your rectum." Being the kinky bastard he is...he agreed.

The news has been predicting this for a couple of weeks, so it's no surprise.

I think she'll be a good Secretary of State, but I guess only time will tell.

There was talk of this way back when H and H had their one on one in private just before the convention.

That'll make it much easier for her to have Obama killed. Just picture a XXX: State of the Union scenario...she could be played Willem Dafoe, too.

Apparently in order to be Secretary of State, all one has to do is continually bad mouth the President and betray party lines by suggesting that if you don't win the party nomination, your supporters would be better off voting for the opposing party's nominee. :techman:

Seriously, couldn't he have picked someone who wasn't batshit insane and actually stuck up for him during the campaign? Like Powell maybe?

I think she's a good choice for State. She and Bill have a lot of goodwill around the world that can help smooth things over, which we really need right now. Obama doesn't need a bunch of "yes men/women" on his Cabinet but rather people who are willing to challenge his opinions until he makes his final decision, and I think Hillary can certainly fulfill that role. She has some decent diplomatic experience and sound foreign policy opinions in general. I think with her and Biden backing up Obama and acting as our representatives internationally when Obama is busy elsewhere things are really looking up.

I think she would have been a poor choice for VP during the election from a strategic standpoint, because it would have undermined Obama's decision-making skills by choosing someone who had just said he was a poor choice in a long drawn-out campaign, but now that the election is over that doesn't really matter any more for her becoming Secretary of State.

Indeed good that the Cabinet won't be just yes men, but Clinton's foreign policy thinking seems to be to demand change before negotiations begin (very much at odds with Obama's ideas and IMO not a good way of thinking). She also pretty much called for empire by saying that we can offer full protection to all ME nations in exchange for them not pursuing nuclear weapons.
It also seems like a bad way to introduce drama, controversy, and more celebrity factor. I don't think keeping Clinton in the news (the media'll probably love covering her) would help the initiatives.

But this is smart. It keeps Clinton close by. This is classical politics - it's called "Keep your friends close; keep your (political) enemies even closer."
