HHGTTG Secondary Phase - out of print?

Amazon says that the Hitchhiker's Guide (radio series) Secondary Phase "has not been released" on CD. What is wrong with it? Is there some special edition coming up? I'm just curious as to why all the other Phases are available - *except* the second.

Probably something relating to international copyright -- a particular piece of music, perhaps.

I know a couple of years ago, when the Hollywood film was still in pre-release, I looked into picking these up, and none of them were available to the US, so at least the Beeb/Adams estate/small furry lawyers from Alpha Centauri have made some progress in making them available.

I just did some more checking. Apparently the primary and secondary phases are indeed getting the Special Edition treatment and those haven't been released yet.

Good. But can any of you find the Last Chance to See radio program Douglas Adams did for the BBC on CD? The BBC just started streaming them on their website but blocked non UK visitors.

There is an audiobook release which I got a long time ago on tape read by Douglas Adams, I don't think the radio series was ever released or even repeated in recent history.

Stephen Fry is working on a TV show following up what happened to the critters Adams visited in the Radio Series/book.

You can buy the HHGTTG on CD because i have them all, Primary through to Quintessential. You may have to import them from UK though.

If you live in the UK, you can listen to the programs here:

Peter Jones does the voice of the book in Last Chance to See as well. Douglas Adams does not include all the same information in the book and the radio series.

I hope the Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine TV show will prompt the BBC to release the radio series on CD. I would even pay to import it to the US.

The radio series *is* available on CD. The Primary and Secondary Phases are now out in Special Editions, though in UK only at present (US release date to be determined). Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential are available here already.

Here's my next question to you UK listeners: What's new in the Special Editions of the first two phases?

Re: HHGTTG Secondary Phase

Babaganoosh, I guess we were talking at cross purposes. I know the HHGTTG is on CD in its entirety. I was talking about the Last Chance to See radio series. Peter Jones does guide like segments but true ones about our planet. Sorry.

Per the description from Amazon.UK the special edition includes:
"Also included in this title is a bonus 50-minute interview with Douglas Adams - who died in 2001 - in which he discusses his career and work."

Re: HHGTTG Secondary Phase

^ The original version took up three CDs, apparently. Why would the Special Edition, which surely has *more* material, only need one?

Re: HHGTTG Secondary Phase

Corrected: one to on. I imported one of the radio series from the BBC (six CDs in all, not Special Edition), but they did not rip very well. An easy Google should find all the radio programs online in MP3 format for those interested.

Re: HHGTTG Secondary Phase

Another thing: Apparently there was some kind of rights issue with the theme music (Journey of the Sorcerer), such that the Eagles' version was ordered removed. :(
