Help with iTunes, please

I have a weird problem with iTunes, basically it plays my mp3s and iTunes formatted songs very quietly, and with a tinny sound (I have a set of small wattage speakers and woofer box). However if I play videos in for example YouTube, the sound is fine, loud and with correct equalising (obviously depending on the quality of the YouTube audio).

Why is the iTunes audio quality so poor? Anyone else had a similar problem?

Check your preferences, under "Playback." If "Sound Check" is on, or "Sound Enhancer" is on and cranked up, it can cause an effect like that.

Just unchecked "Sound Check" and it seems to have worked. Many thanks
