These are the first two dvd's of the series. For the first I'm trying to play the extras. These are Netflix dvd's (from a neighbor) if that makes a difference. I have the remotes from two other Zenith products, the DTT901 converter box and a 2002 tv-vcr combo, one of the last they made. I called Zenith and was told the arrows on the latter's remote will move the cursor on the dvd menu so I might play the extras. I don't understand why they don't just play after Ep. 104 at the end of the disc. I also have an RCA universal remote from a vcr though I didn't mention that to Zenith. I would like to be able to somehow fast-forward and rewind, minutely rewind. The player, given to me, only has buttons skip, scan, play, pause, stop, and open. Note that I'm not a dvd person and had to figure out that scan would forward and skip would rewind, but with hassle and not as on a vcr. Someone provoked the idea that I put the dvd in a computer to play it. Then I could use the arrows to move the cursor. But what would I press to rewind and fast-forward and play and stop. Your suggestions?

If you put it in your computer, you will actually be able to move your cursor with the mouse and click on the special features.

Like vinyl records optical media doesn't rewind. That's one of the big advantages over tape. Many disk based players can show a video stream in reverse though.
When a device's remote is lost or fails (try replacing the batteries before giving up on it) you may be able to use an inexpensive universal remote. Universal remotes typically come with a list of codes that program the remote to operate different brands of equipment. Sometimes that list is available on the remote manufacturer's web site. There's often multiple codes for each brand, so you might have to sequentially try those codes until you can determine which code makes the remote work with your device. If the universal remote is older than the device there's a higher risk it doesn't include a code to operate that device.
Rental services tend to provide bare bones versions of media, so don't be surprised if they lack bonus material like trailers for that film, deleted scenes, production photo albums and "how it was made" documentaries. On the other hand they might include trailers for other disks that play before the content you want to watch and employ technology that makes it inconvenient to skip them.

Starbreaker, once I move the cursor to extras, do I left-click once to play and how do I rewind and fast-forward on my computer if I can? RobertVA, not rewinding is only a mechanical advantage; it doesn't help me as a user except possibly as to durability. They may be on the MGM label, but that doesn't mean you can access them on the disc. You never know what you're going to get with rental copies. There might be an option for Extras on the menu, but you might be locked out of playing them.

Starbreaker, your confidence was very helpful. I did watch some of the extras, but now I can't get back to the menu nor do I know how to access the disc if I take it off desktop but leave it inserted. Please respond because my neighbor wants me to return it.

Status report. The menu icon was not responding; the reason: it only works when the disc is in the play mode. Having gotten where I want to be, the problem now is that you can't rewind appropriately. You either go back several scenes or a moment. As a vcr person who is sick of hearing about dvd's, that is garbage. Is this MGM's fault? I don't think much of them and even less of Sony. The good news: the series is superb, and the picture looks even better on the larger screen of my laptop, but I'd rather watch the episodes on the player if no rewind can be done here; I can save this for the extras. I do have the remote somewhere. RobertVA, I did encounter a seemingly separate popup remote so I will double-check it for a rewind feature. Thank you to all. I shall ask MGM about Atlantis.
