Help remembering an old fan starship design?

It could look a bit better.

Kind of like this.

I like its differentness. I wouldn't have designed it quite like that but overall I give it the thumbs up for creativity.

Come to think of it, I think more Starfleet ships should look like it. Why doesn't every starship have a deflector dish? And I don't think starships should have saucers if they're not that large or built for long voyages.

RE: Dac's ship

The nacelles look too long for the rest of the ship. A ship with a main hull that size should have Oberth-style nacelles, IMO.

It's like the saucer got destroyed, but they managed to get the bridge module out & bolt it on the secondary hull.

A "quick fix" to get home.

Hmm, not even all that bad looking but hey, I absolutely LOVE the Sydney class too so... :p... as for this ship..just shorten the nacelles a bit and tadaa yer got a neat boat there.

No, it's just freaking. Another ship plucked from the extensive range of poor quality kitbashes on the Starship Schematic Database. I'm all for shaking up the saucer/nacelle/hull designs of basic Trek lore, and as Herkimer pointed out it can be done with some style and flair like the NSEA Protector. This however, is bits glued on other bits with little thought to proportions and effective layout. I'd much rather see something designed from the ground up with no saucer than see someone chop a finished design to pieces like this.

And I agree 100%, thing is though kitbashes usually have a reason for being, and that's because their cheap, quick and easy to make. I made that render in 10 minutes and I only had to create one new piece. Sure, its not by any means "final", but for a quick background shot it serves to signify it is a different ship that isn't the Enterprise, which in Trek was pretty much the whole reason for kitbashes in fandom and in the show.

So yeah, i'd rather it be a new design also, but if you gotta do something quick, a kitbash is the way to go.

As a time saving move on a TV show or film with a micro-budget there's nothing wrong with kitbashes. They tend to be in the background out of sight, like the infamous ones in the fleet scene in DS9, not the hero ship in the foreground. This design, along with many on the SSS website, was built under no such time constraints.

The design shown in Dac's 3D renderings reminds me quite a bit of the Space Cruiser Aurora from the TOS outing "The Way to Eden". (Yes, the space hippie getaway ship) This is true of both the wings and the too-close warp nacelles. If this is supposed to be a Federation capital starship, shouldn't the engines be placed further away from the main hull? And if the nacelle pylons join into the hull just forward and below the hangar, does that mean the shuttlecraft would be stored someplace else?

I like the idea of this kitbash but I think it'd make more sense to have the warp pylons connect to the hull at the top area, where they would normally be on the Connies. That way, minimal modification to the internal engineering sections and hangar bay. And the warp pylons could be re-uses of the ones from the Reliant :) It'd make an interesting no-frills combat ship.

Makes sense. You know, i think the Dreadnaught could be made better by omitting the shuttlebay up front. Lower the saucer, and put torps on the chin under the secondary hull. This flares back. The shuttlebay is out back, but a voyager recessed nose type of aft deflector is under the fan tail facing aft. This way, you keep a smooth teardrop on the secondary hull.
