Help identifying a novel series

Hi all. I need help identifying a novel series that I really wanted to reccommend in the 'Reccommend a Fantasy series' thread that someone posted, but couldn't because I can't remember what it is called or who wrote it. It is about parallel worlds, a dark carnival and preacher, and two adult protagonists (one woman and one man). Does anybody recognize this series?

The only "dark carnival" that comes to mind for me is from Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes - a great story but not a series.

Could it be the Serenity Falls series by James A. Moore?

The Serenity Falls series seems similar in some respects, but the series I'm looking for was distinctly fantasy, and Serenity Falls is a horror series. I also seem to remember that the author's last name started with either an 'A' or a 'B'.

I also just checked my local library's online system catalog and they only have novel listed for James A Moore, and it's not this Serenity Falls thing, so it couldn't have been the series I read based solely on that reason alone, since I checked it out from our main library branch here in town (I live in Ogden, UT).
