Hello from BRANDON EASTON, one of the STAR TREK: YEAR FIVE writers...

Hello all,

I used to be an extremely active member of this forum but life, career and moving to Los Angeles years ago changed the amount of time I could spend on various message boards. I would check in from time to time, but I haven't been around as much as I would like.

Obviously, many of you have heard the news about the STAR TREK: YEAR FIVE comic series from IDW and I wanted to stop in to say hello as a fan and introduce myself to folks I've never chatted with here.

I can't talk much about the story or the issues I'm writing, but I am happy to talk Trek and discuss what's already publicly known about the series.

This was the announcement in the Hollywood Reporter: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/h...c-book-explores-original-missions-end-1177504

And this is the actual ordering information if you use a local comics shop: https://www.previewsworld.com/Catalog/FEB190633

The book is due out on April 24th, 2019.

If anyone needs to "verify" my identity, there's plenty of information online about me and if the mods need to verify, please reach out to me privately.

Thanks!

Glad to see another of our esteemed Trek writers on the board. I’m excited for Year Five! It inspired me to start buying the individual IDW issues this year instead of waiting to read the trades.

I’ve also been reading Year Four and The Enterprirse Experiment in preparation. The original Year Four was really not my favorite, but I am liking The Enterprise Experiment so far. It’s too bad that original concept wasn’t continued, but I’m glad you guys get a chance to do something that is hopefully even better instead.

Thanks Enterprise1701.

I appreciate the support and I can tell you that we've come up with some incredible stuff that pays homage to what we love about Trek while expanding the characters a bit.

It's going to be quite fun.

If you get a chance, check out my Trek short story in the recent WAYPOINT anthology. I wrote a story about Q meeting V'Ger after the events of ST: TMP. :)

I truly hope you enjoy ST: Y5.

Hey, I know you can't say much but with a beginning, middle and end in mind for the series can you tell us how long you would like it to run if it was up to you only (and ignoring things like sales etc.)?

I'll check out your waypoint story if I find the issue, my next trip to the comic book store is in two weeks so it will have to wait a bit but it's on my list.

To be honest, I like the length we currently are working on. 24 issues gives us just the perfect amount of time to get the characters into the places we recognize them from ST: TMP.

A lot has to occur for that to happen. :)

Welcome back to the BBS, @comicbookwriter! I'm looking forward to reading STY5! Any advice on having IDW's Trek editor Denton Tipton answer your emails? :) I have a Trek story I really want to pitch to him, but of course I can't do that until he says it's okay to send him ideas. But so far, no response to my initial inquiry email.

Welcome @comicbookwriter.
I don't know if you can answer this, but I was wondering, is this going to one long arc, or a series of smaller interconnected arcs?

That was you?? I loved that story, especially the way you characterized Decker and (for a brief moment) Ilia. I've always been curious about what happened to them after their transcendence.

I have to admit, I was on the fence before about this series, but now I am planning to get every issue. Best of luck!

Very much appreciate the kind words. :)

We hope to give you the best Trek experience we can. Rest assured the entire team LOVES Star Trek! We were all fans first and foremost.
