Healing time of ribs...

Nathan_Heller

Two weeks ago I took a bad fall and fractured three ribs. I'm taking Vicodin for the pain which is still considerable. My doctor told me it may be a 5 week to 2 month painful recovery. Can anyone share advice or share their recovery times?

Thanks all...

Nathan,

I'm very concerned that you're taking Vicodin for the pain. Have we all learned the lesson what's happening to Micheal Jackson? I don't want you to hooking up that dangerous drug that could end up killing you in the long run.

However, be well!

Sounds about right... Rib injuries are very painful. Rest easy.

Dude he fell and got hurt. He isn't a pop star who wants relief.

I know. But still..Vicodin is dangerous drug. I'd take different drugs than this. I took Aleve instead of this Vicodin, do you see something wrong with that? Just asking, that's all.

I would go with whatever the doctor gave me. I doubt Aleve is strong enough unless you're taking way too much of it.

RoJoHen,

I took two Aleve pills and pain go away all days long. But I remember the research from a years ago that it may leads to heart attack, because that drug itself is very, very popular.

Do you suggest that he listen to his doctor, or to you?

Aleve IS NOT the same as vicodine. I suggest the OP listen to the MD and not the SA [Supreme Admiral]. And again, I have to say, do you post like this on purpose?

No. I don't post like this on purpose. I'm just worrying, that's all. Just worrying of his well-being, that's all. I know that Aleve is not the same as vicodine.

Thousands upon thousands of people are prescribed opioids every day and almost none of them get hooked on it for life. Most of them take it for such a short period of time that there isn't even time for any addiction to form. The amount of hydrocodone in Vicodin is pretty laughable as it is that unless you're abusing them (in which case wave goodbye to your liver unless you're smart enough to separate the hydrocodone from the paracetamol), there's very little risk. People that abuse them do so at their own risk.

Enough silly scare mongering.

Time frame on healing sounds right...bone take about 2 months.

Follow doc's orders...including meds and dosages...try not to move sharply with the torso. be slowish even after healing.

Find things to occupy your mind, not physically straining stuff.

Ribs are the worst, not much they can do for them but time.

Good luck.

No I meant with all the mistakes and such. It makes it very hard to read.

Please allow me to express my sympathies on your injury, however, I could not resist reading your thread title and not think about the potential healing properties of consuming BBQ ribs.

I thank everyone for their postings. It's amusing though that a few days after the accident my wife asked me how my ribs felt and I replied barbecued. I thought I would relate that in light of some the humorous rib puns. :)

He is deaf, so technically, spoken and typed english is his second language. His posting style reflects that.

Hey SA maybe you should put something in you're signature line reflecting your disability. That way your typing style might not be questioned in every thread you post in.

And sign me up for the BBQ rib study. Pretty sure I can consume large amounts with out OD'ing.:techman:

Sorry to hear about your ribs, Nathan. Hopefully they'll heal up quickly and easily, but it does take 6-8 weeks, and you have to be really careful.

If you don't like the Vicodin, ask for Demerol. That's the good stuff. :D
