Headed to DC

Oh, you have to have your photo taken with the TOS Enterprise miniature in the gift shop of National Air and Space, and use it as your avatar for at least a month.

If it is warm enough, check out the National (and Free) Zoo.

The Portrait Gallery is worth checking out across the Verizon Center in China Town.

Of course, I am going to plug Ray's Hellburger in Arlington (near the Rosslyn metro). Amazing.

Ill have to check on the price of the metro and the gao is prettymuch in china town.

A one-day Metro pass is $9. The one-day pass would probably cover about 3 trips, depending on how long they are and when you're going.

Fares vary by route and time of day, so depending on how much traveling you're doing, and how many days you'll be there, it might be better to just dump $10 or $20 on a regular fare card, which is good until it's kicked.

The map is very clear and easy to use, as long as you know what stop you're trying to get to.

I was in McPherson briefly last weekend. Can't say I was looking for hookers. It's not like they wear bright neon signs that say "hooker."

I'm here!

I walked over to the National Air and space museum; very impressive but it is laid out very much like the EAA museum in Oshkosh, WI. I am certainly in china town - can't wait to try out some authentic THAI and Chinese.

I'll be in meetings most of the day today and tomorrow, but have tonight open and some of friday. What else is there!

There's a fun sports bar in the Grand Hyatt. They serve these giant towers of beer...

There's also a Capitol City Brewery across the street from there. Good food.

We went to an Irish Pub in Chinatown...can't remember the name...but it was crazy!

Have fun....

The Irish Channel is near by and there is another Irish pub on the northside of H and 7th. All very busyand my god there must be a capitals game todaybecause its a sea or red out here.

I'm going to be in DC the second week in November and I'm looking for fun things to do within walking distance of the GAO. I plan on going to the National Air Museum (its a mile walk, but Ill live). Probably tour the capital as well.

Anyone have any good things in that area to tour or make sure I see. It's not my first time to DC, but I'm not well versed in the area.

Couple of fun things to do (lived there for close to 3 years)
  • Afterwords Cafe and Bar / Kramerbooks in Dupont Circle
  • Dukem Ethiopian Cuisine
  • See what's playing at the Cultural Theater in Silver Spring (couple years back I saw The Wrath of Khan there :)).
  • 3D IMAX at either Air and Space or Natural History museum (cool documentaries)
  • Of course go see the Starship Enterprise!
  • Say hi to Squiggy, The Brew, Alidar, Lindley, Flaming Liberal and the rest of the D.C./Baltimore crew :).
  • Get lunch in Arlington at Ray's Hellburger (seriously, you have to do this).

Hmm that's all I can think of at the moment.

If you can spare the time, make a trip to Harpers Ferry. My sister took us there, and while it's a bit out of the way, it's totally worth it to see an old civil war town that has become a national park. It has the distinction of changing sides multiple times throughout the war.

I am certainly in china town - can't wait to try out some authentic THAI and Chinese.
Good luck. The most Chinese thing in Chinatown is the translation on the Starbucks sign.

There is a store across from my hotel that sells fresh dead bat. I'm not trying it but its there. So is chicken and what looks alot like cat.

Tickets for the game last night were going for $85.00. I didn't do that.

His point is if you want authentic Chinese experience, don't go to Chinatown. I had a prof who was orignally from China. He told me Chinatown here in DC was crap. Besides, it is turning into a Times Square wannabe.
