Spoilers HBO's The Nevers

For us Brits, it's apparently coming to Sky Atlantic in May.

I plan on checking it out then.

The whole freaks in a mansion with an old mentor thing is basically its own genre by now, anyway. And X-men isn't the first example of it, either.

On the one hand, this feels kind of generic and more than a little derivative.

On the other hand, I've enjoyed the two female leads quite a bit. Also, though not terribly relevant, Ann Skelly (Penance Adaire) is absolutely breathtaking.

Probably going to give it a few more episodes before I can make up my mind.

2nd episode was pretty decent. More world building, but I was entertained. Still feels too much like a Victorian X-Men or a Steam Punk X-Men, needs to distinguish itself more...

Just started this show and am on episode 5. I am REALLY enjoying it. It has a group of characters with diverse personalities and abilities. But mostly I’m loving the dialogue which has all the snap, punch, and humor, of Buffy, Angel, and most definitely, Firefly. I’v actually gone back and watched parts of episodes just for the exchanges between characters.

Hope this is not a feature that left with Whedon.

That last episode, like the last step, is a doozy with an awesome guest star I won't spoil. I'm still at a bit of a loss trying to piece that all together. After thinking the series wasn't really going anywhere in the beginning it gets more complex as it goes on, I'd like to rewatch the last episodes sometime.

It's hard not to think of Whedon with all the nubile young ladies running about. It's too bad that all went down as it did as I think the show might be getting more buzz otherwise. The show reminds me of Buffy with the snappy patter and the vibe and chemistry with the cast.
