Having trouble installing QuickTime 7.7 on my Mac

I downloaded QuickTime 7.7.0 from Apple's website, tried to install it by gave the error:

This version of QuickTime 7 can't be installed on this disk because QuickTime X is already present. Please use Software Update...etc...

So I ran software update and it said I was all up to date - yet I'm using QT 7.6.4!!

I have a MacBook Pro (early 2011 model, i7, 2.0GHz) running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

Found the solution; Apple have discontinued support for QuickTime 7 for Snow Leopard and Lion after 7.6.6 (but continue to make it for Leopard and below, and for Windows).

Apparently they think QuickTime X is suitable for all our needs.

You can still install 7.6.6 on Snow Leopard and Lion. It looks like the only thing added in 7.7 was Leopard and Windows-specific security updates.

You got me all worried that Pro wouldn't work on Lion at all.
