Have your fan fic fancastings changed?

When I saw the movie Moonfall, I saw the actor Eme Ikwuakor and it struck me that he would make a very good Terrence Glover for my Dark Territory series. I also think Jurassic World Dominion's DeWanda Wise would make a good Jasmine Mendes-Glover. Originally, I modeled Terrence after Trek/genre vet Roger Cross (after considering Tony Todd) Jasmine after former Miss USA/Atlanta Housewives Kendra Moore back in the day (though I also thought about actress Stacey Dash over the years). I have not changed my vision of the Glovers necessarily, but I do think both Ikwuakor and Wise would work very well if I did. Have any of you who also fan cast your series or fan fic characters in general have changed, or considered changing, how envision them?

Is this for the Dark Territory reboot for a new generation?

I didn’t know Cross was your choice for Terrence. I remember him for, at some point, showing up in about every Canadian produced sci-fi show. Can’t recall who he played on Trek though.

Cross played an alien on ENT.

No reboots, yet. But from time to time I've thought about how to get it going again. I'm still stuck in 2376 for the most part.

Initially I was looking at Tony Todd. Of course I loved his Trek work, but for Glover I was more inspired by the captain Todd played in the Babylon 5 movie, "Call to Arms." My memory isn't great these days, but I'm sure it was "24" or maybe the "Fifth Wave", perhaps both, that cemented Cross for me.

Actually, Cross starred in the TV series First Wave. Fifth Wave was the alien invasion movie with Chloe Moretz.

As for my fan fic casting, no changes. So far I've fancast four Trek crews and I've never rethought a single decision. I guess my thinking always is that "These are the people I want to see in a Trek series like this, and as long as I'm the only one telling these stories, that's who I envision on my head TV." This sentiment has only been strengthened by the ironic fact that the one fancasting of mine that came true - Michelle Yeoh as a starship captain - was utterly and completely fucked up the ass by the benighted fools currently in charge of Star Trek.

So...yeah. No changes.

I had pictured Michael Beach as Terrence Glover - Beach created a similar character for Stargate Atlantas - charismatic, heroic and more than a little arrogant.

I cast Michelle Yeoh for Justice Minerva Irons before she turned up in ST Discovery. I think she would groove on the part as it is not a physical role - very much a character arc. I used Shaquille O'Neil as a model for the gigantic Commander David Pepper - charming, sweet natured, more than a little bit of a nerd, but just impossibly big, strong and athletic.

Other than that, I really didn't have any actors in mind for Star Trek Hunter.

Thanks!! rbs

Funny you mention Beach because his character on Stargate Atlantis did make an impression. If I recall the fan fic series Star Trek: Swiftfire fancasted him for its lead captain. That wasn't a disincentive on my part mind you, but all the same, Beach has crossed my mind from time to time. If that's how you see Glover that's fine with me.

I also recall looking at Famke Janssen for Pell Ojana. I had her Dark Phoenix from X-Men: The Last Stand in the back of my mind when I was writing the Mirror Universe Pell back in the day.

Concerning Pell Ojana, when I - Ahem - "borrowed" the character for the Star Trek: MY Way! story, "The Equatorial," I pictured her being played by Emma Caulfield, who played "Anya" in the Buffy TV series. At the time I realized that was a departure from the original, but now that you mention Famke Janssen I see now how much of a departure it actually was. Still, Pell Ojana: MY Way is more like Bajor's Norman Rockwell than the Starfleet senior officer she was derived from.

I wasn't familiar with Caulfield but looking at pictures of her as a brunette or with reddish-brown hair and I think that's a pretty good choice.

For me, I'm not too wedded to the actors inspired, or I modeled my Dark Territory characters after, except for the Glovers for the most part, including Samson Glover (I take inspiration from Danny Glover for him). Sometimes an actors' appearance or performance gives me a starting point.

It is pretty cool hearing who other people might think fit my characters. For some of the other United Trek characters, I sort of had Lost's Matthew Fox for CeJay's Captain Owens and when I was writing Gibraltar's Sandhurst for "The Crucible" way back in the day now, I had BSG's Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglass) in mind.

I could see a young Clive Owen for Michael Owens. To say Ed Harris would make a great Sandhurst doesn't really say much, since Harris has such a range - but I'd love to see what he would make of the role. Considering how much Sandhurst changes, it would take someone with Harris' range to pull it off. Like Owen, Harris is about 25 years older than the role.

Most of my fanfiction characters are either:
A. Established characters in a fandom, and would be played or voice-acted by the original actor.
B. Me, breaking the fourth walll by entering my own stories. Would be played by me, wearing a wig (since I hate being bald, my avatar never is).
C. In my Potterverse and kinderguardians stories, kids. Should be played by unknowns, or voice-actors who can convincingly sound young.
