I remember early reports said Robau would be depicted as a "badass" captain, to counter all the supposedly incompetant Starfleet captains we've had in other Trek movies.

I dunno. I always thought Terrell got a bum rap.

Do you think that includes Sulu?I remember early reports said Robau would be depicted as a "badass" captain, to counter all the supposedly incompetant Starfleet captains we've had in other Trek movies.
As did the Reliant, I know we have seen the same ship on the good guy side since but there always seems to have been a slight hatred for the ship by certain fans...shame because its one of the best non 1701 ships in Trek.I dunno. I always thought Terrell got a bum rap.
Id say thats a fair guess at the plot, Ive been looking at screen caps trying to work out if the shuttles are covering the Kelvin like fighters or moving away, I guessing the latter as in some shots it looks like the front of a shuttle with lights (which in some shots the windows arent too visible making the lights look like engines)There is dialog in the film where Pike tells Kirk that his father was the captain of that ship for 12 minutes. So presumably Robau gets killed or incapacitated and George takes command he then sets a colision couse with nero's ship and has everyone (including himself and his wife) abandon the ship (this is way you see alot of shuttles near the Kelvin in the trailer) . So Nero fails to kill kirks parents but significantly alters the timeline by causing the Kelvin to be destroyed.
Im betting George Kirk stays behind at the helm to let the others get away, meaning he would be the Badass Captain Robau's Badass first officer...mayb the Kelvin is just one Badass little ship.

You probably have to eat a live Tribble just to get assigned to her.

...and hopefully someone stayed behind to arm-wrestle with him throughout.
All we know is that he's the Badass Captain Robau.
If he wants to take on a giant space octopus by himself, he can... because he's the Badass Captain Robau.

Unfortunately, the spoilers seem to indicate the Badass Captain Robau gets killed by the Space Octopus when it destroys the Kelvin.
