I am surprised to find that my opinion of the new ship has changed. My initial reaction to the Discovery was shock and horror, but now I see good things in the design and think it has potential. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Accordingly my selection from the poll is "Hated it, now love it".

For the purposes of keeping things (relatively) simple, "like", "love" and "appreciate" are classed as the same thing.

I'm not entirely sure how to characterize my own response, honestly. At first sight a lot of question marks popped up over my head, I guess? It's an interesting choice. I saw a number of ways to improve it, but I don't hate it. I do think the secondary hull is way too damn wide.

I'm more interested to find out what her M.O. is, when the story is going to take place... A lot of that will ultimately inform the way I feel about her.

Hated the concept art years ago. My opinion hasn't changed.

Hated the Enterprise D too, but it didn't spoil my enjoyment of TNG.

Loved it when I first saw it and still do. Hope the sets do her justice as well, no more Apple stores in space.

I think that this is a design that can grow on you. Especially if the ship plays the role of the underdog.

My first reaction was knee-jerk based on an opinion I formed when I first saw the original design years ago. I remember thinking back then, thank god they never went with that, so seeing the familiar outline triggered those negative feelings.

But once I applied some salve to the hurting area, by actually looking carefully at every inch of the ship in paused full screen, beauty in the design began to shine through. I am actually now hoping further refinement doesn't spoil any of the good things I like about the ship.

nope, normally it goes surprised, don't like it, hate it, write 500 entries why it's just 300 meters long

No, but that doesn't matter. I don't particularly care for the looks of the Enterprise-D or Voyager but it didn't stop me enjoying those shows.

Didn't care, still don't care. Ship design is one of the least important aspects of the show to me. Characters and story being most important, then sets, music, costumes, special effects, series title, and anything else I'm forgetting, then ship design.

I liked the Adams/McQuarrie designs and I think the new design will be fine once they "tweak" it a bit and use finished CGI FX.

Me all over.

Context is everything.

It's a strange design from what we're used to, but I definitely don't hate it. At least it looks new (despite being based on old concept art), new is all I want out of DIS.

My opinion on the ship hasn't changed one bit. Liked it then, still like it now.

I kind of like ships that have a little "rustic" look to them like the Millennium Falcon or Serenity. They're not there to look pretty or win a kewlness contest, but to do a job--usually a dirty or difficult one.

Never really liked the concept art then I saw this in motion and liked it the way a man comes out of a desert after 15 years and falls in love with the first women he sees.

In your analogy, the first woman he sees is a man and he'll have to do.
