My first interest in Star Trek came from The Trouble With Tribbles, which I rented from Blockbuster one day as a kid (musta been 13 or so) on a rare day when my parents said "Choose a video, whatever you want, within reason." I was not interested in many of the movies so I was wandering through the television section and spied the box on a whim. Now, 16 years later, I'm a die hard. Even went to a Trek convention!
Has Star Trek affected my life? Yeah, without a doubt. Like the posters above me, Star Trek helped make me very tolerant of other people and other beliefs. I keep IDIC foremost in my mind when dealing with other people. I find that sometimes, the best response is to simply raise an eyebrow. I have found myself in command positions in volunteer fire departments and every time a split-second decision was called for, I found myself thinking of Kirk and the idea that if you can't BE confident, at least ACT confident.
