Has anyone here met Gene Roddenberry?

I asked the question in the Roddenberry thread talking about the anniversary of his passing, and I don't think anyone had any stories about meeting him.

So I thought I'd post a new thread asking the question since people who have met him might not have seen my original question.

I was 15 in 1990, which was when I started going to the conventions, so I never got to meet him or see him. He was getting to be in really poor health at the time, so I doubt I would've had much of a chance to meet him unless I lived in L.A.

Closest I got was seeing Majel working a dealer's table at a convention where she was not a guest during the 80s. Talked to a few minutes and bought something from her.

Friend of mine saw him give a lecture or some such back in the 70's, but didn't get to 1-on-1 meet him or anything.

I saw him give a lecture at UAB some years ago- I could not get close enough to meet him.

He read an exert from a book he was writing about an Alien in disguise living on Earth to study humanity.
The passage he read involved the Alien watching an symphony performance, with the 'creatures still carrying the traits of violent evolution, the vestigial fangs and claws, making art with musical instruments' (to paraphrase) It sounded like a great book but I never did find if was ever released or not.

Never met him, but attended one of his big lectures back in the late '70's. Great talk, showed the bloopers and The Cage.

I met him once back in the 70's; I was so freaked out that I shook his hand and mumbled something. He was nice for the brief second that I met him. I have thought about how stupid I must have come across for decades, lol.

The truly sad thing is he never had the pleasure of meeting me.

It would have changed his life for the better.

Never met Gene, but I did met Majel in 1995 at Grand Slam. I met their son Rod two years ago at a mutual friend's birthday. Both were incredibly nice, cordial and wonderful people.

No, although I worked for a while with a lady who had met Majel on several occasions. I forget how since it was not at a convention; somehow it had to do with theatre. Anyway, she said she was very, very nice.

I briefly met Gene and Majel at a convention in 1986.

I recall him being very warm and gracious.
