Has anyone ever died on the Trekbbs???

I don't mean while in the middle of posting, but I'm just curious if anyone knows of any board members who are no longer with us.

Do you have any nice things to say about them?

It may not seem it, but I'm serious with this thread.

Yes.

Nibbles was a member here and also ran Kellyz Korner. She passed away.
Techman who was a member here and also a member of Wordforge passed away.
smeos has died the most recently. He was also a member here.

All of them terrible losses to this community.
I would have nothing bad to say about any of them. All good people.

Someone posted some time ago about a TrekBBSer in the military who died, but I don't remember who it was.

Unfortunately, we've also had at least one incident where some asshole created a fake account and posted that another member had died in order to troll the board.

Techman happened a while ago. I'm not sure how word came to the TrekBBS. He does have a smiley named after him, though. :techman:

However, with smeos, I believe a family member or friend found the TrekBBS and started a thread announcing that it happened.

RojoHen already answered the question in regards to smeos, so:

For Nibbles, we received the terrible news from Shatna.
For Techman, I found out over at Wordforge from MissManners (I'm a member).
For smeos, a family friend accessed his account and told us.

It's quite possible that there are more. People who weren't noticed when they were around, and weren't missed when they disappeared without explanation.

Members: 12,771, Active Members: 3,391

There are many accounts here which have become 'inactive'. Most are probably people who've gotten bored and gone away, but we wouldn't necessarily know if there were a more serious reason for them falling silent.

Well, the vast majority are lookie-loos who registered for whatever reason but never posted more than a couple times (if at all) or visited with any kind of regularity.

Doing a members search for people with:
-- more than 500 posts (not lookie-loos)
-- no posts since this time last year. (inactive)

There are 725 results.

These could be considered well established members who have fallen silent, mostly without explanation.

5OO posts isn't so much. An accomplished spammer could do that in a couple of days.

If you move that up to 1000 posts, then those people probably would be remembered, by someone or other, and it would be really weird if they had fallen silent without warning.

1000 posts -- 472 results
2000 posts -- 262 results
5000 posts -- 81 results ...
