Has anyone ever attempted to create a Tongo game?

I actually researched into it to see if anyone has on the web, but turned up a big fat nothing. I'd really like to make one, but the main problem is the mechanics of the wheel thingo in the middle, being as I'm not the best with wood... or any form of building things!

From watching the episodes I think it would be relatively easy to string some rules together, or certainly a simple set.

I'll buy at 10 sell at 20 and index the margain to 20% :)

I got no idea.

Total Monopoly!!! Gotcha.

They really try to make it complex without ever having to make up any real rules for it.

Actually I know where you can purchase the game Tongo, *edited*
*Ferengi Rule of Acquistion #59 applies here*

Listen. I worked for many months on developing the rules for the game. I watched every episode, read everything I could on Tongo. Then I researched banking, marketing, statistics, even did a little research regarding stocks and bonds. I learned how the games of poker, mahjong and craps where played. Then, after alot of hard work, I finally finished making the rules for the game Tongo. I have the detailed specs for the board in a 3D program, and the rules are all worked out. I made the game in a way such that it still looked like what they played on DS9, but the rules still made sense and in fact the game isn't that easy to play, it requires calculation and strategy. Anyway, I made that site you visited yesterday. I don't have pictures of the table because it looks exactly like the table shown on the series. Before I make any next move into producing these things, I need to have a good estimate of the margin I'm working with. I need to know just how many people are willing to buy a Tongo game, so I'm posting accross facebook, here, and other forums to see how many people I can get who are willing to buy a game. If anyone is interested just send me an email at fca.purchases@gmail.com. I made one table for myself to make sure everything worked alright. Me and my friend played for about 8 hours last night, and I'm sure any Star Trek fan who has ever wanted to play Tongo would enjoy it too.

Oh, in a addition. I was told that the 59th rule of acquisition applies here, "Free advice is seldom cheap". How does that apply to banning someone for trying to help another person out. The advice was cheap, the purchase will not be. But saying that the 59th rule applies is not very accurate. If the rule said, "Never make a business pitch on a forum", then okay that would apply. Anyway its nice to see that this Star Trek forum is run in a way that prevents people from finding what they want (I thought that's what forums were for......).

It's just the rules. Being snarky about it won't change anything.

"...posting to sell or endorse a product or web site will not be permitted."

No, forums are for having civilised discussions, not for advertisements. If you want to find something, use Google.

And even if this forum was for advertising (which I stress again, its not), in all your research into marketing surely you would have learned that no one is going to buy anything from a website with literally no information about what its trying to sell.

You can claim that you spent years developing a new... whatever, and that its super fun and just like you saw on X show, but until we have some sort of proof you just look like a spammer - and a rude one at that.

And for the record, I'm a Niner, my family loves card and board games, and we would LOVE to own a real Tongo game. But all you've shown me is an empty website, and given me a link to an email that will probably just spam me. If you really want to sell Tongo games, then get some good quality photos of this supposed game board (and of you playing it!) and I'm sure you'll find people are a lot more receptive.

Oh, and while you're at it, learn the rules of the forums you're advertising in - cause all the forums I visit have rules against it, so it really shouldn't be such a surprise.

You're absolutely right, the website and email are not that legitimate. Like I said, I only just made them a few days ago. Anyway, I apologize for my rude behaviour, I was just a little frustrated because I wanted to get my point across but never managed too. When I signed up for this forum, I read the agreement, and I don't recall seeing anything about selling products, but I could be mistaken. I won't do it again. The reason, however, that I am using a forum to get my product out is because I am a University student and I can't afford to buy advertising. So I thought I would ask people on some forums to see if I could get any requests. What I would like to make clear is this, I haven't produced any Tongo games yet, I simply can't afford it. What I am trying to do is acquire orders from people who would be interested in buying the game. That's all I want for now, and if enough people are interested, then I will take the next step and start producing the game. You said that your family would buy the game, I'm glad you said that, because at least I have one order. I am in the process of posting pictures of the table and I may even post a video of me and my friend playing the game. Once again, I apologize if I offended anyone. I admit, the email account sounds illegitimate, but it’s not. However, if you are suspicious, I have just created an alternate route. I just recently created a facebook group named Ferengi Commerce Authority, if you are interested in purchasing the game, IN THE FUTURE, not now, but later on if you WOULD be interested in buying the game, I ask that you join the group mentioned above. I created it in order to keep track of who is willing to buy it. Just join the group and if you have any questions you can post them there where I will answer them. This way there is no chance of being spammed. I hope you join Arix and anyone else who is interested in the game Tongo. Thank you.

Hey, I know I am a little late to the discussion, but I feel bad for this guy. I LOVE Tongo and would love to buy it sometime, although I must admit that that website really wasn't that legitimate. You said that you had just made it so I guess I can understand. Anyway, like I said, I feel bad for this guy, because you have all said that posting anything regarding "advertisement" is against the rules of this forum, well I agree with Theodore, it doesn't say that at all:

The word "advertisement" is not found at all in that paragraph, so what are you all talking about?

Anyway Theodore I am willing to buy a game from you, I will be on your facebook group.

Whether you 'feel bad' for him or not, he's still breaking the rules.

I've never known any forums which allow advertising, and after doing a (very quick) search in the forum FAQ, I found that under "Soliciting" it clearly says -
Do not attempt to solicit other BBS members: posting to sell or endorse a product or web site will not be permitted.
So that's what I'm talking about. Please do more thorough research next time.

And for the record, as I clearly stated in my previous post, I too would love to buy a real Tongo board. But if I wanted to find one, I would search for it on Google, not a forum.

There are rules to play Tongo here:

http://tongogame.com/

but the rules are obviously difficult to figure out. I am thinking it would best be played with chips requiring a buy-in to purchase the chips, and whoever has all the chips or the most chips at the end wins the money. chips used in play would go in cup in the center to be collected at the end by the winning player.

I am the creator of the version lordzoma mentions if anybody has any questions. I haven't updated it with the construction details or too many pictures yet but feel free to check it out. Basically it is foam board and a lazy susan.

I never understood that logic. In most cases, the useful Google results (particularly with "where do I find" type questions) are forum posts.

OP asked if anyone has created a Tongo game, someone has. Most forums aren't so draconian about the rules when the link being shared is directly relevant to a legitimate topic.
