The media is screaming that Sergey Brin is worried that Google finally has a competitor. I, for one, am very skeptical.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/06142009/business/fear_grips_google_174235.htm

While Bing is presented differently from Google -- with a colorful home page and easy-to-navigate search categories compared with Google's stark white page and search box -- there is little difference between the two when it comes to searching for simple terms.

A spokeswoman for Microsoft said, however, that Bing is currently focused on improving search results in four main categories: shopping, travel, health and local searches.

So... why should I start using Bing instead of Google, Ms. Microsoft Spokesperson?

Microsoft have used bing to replace the old search engine facility they had on their web site so I've used it that way.

Conclusion? Meh.

it looks pretty (maybe they should of called it bling) but doesn't seem to offer much more (the again the best way to search the microsoft knowledge bases has frequently been through external search engines).

I wonder how long Microsoft has had this in development for given 18 months ago it was trying to buy Yahoo? I wonder if the plan was to buy yahoo, kill it's search engine and replace it with Bing? Sure Microsoft was prepared to pay $US45bil but it would of given them control of Yahoo's data centres which would be worth a pretty penny.

I'm glad Yahoo! didn't sell out to the Beast. M$ has destroyed too many competitors that way. It would be better (and less scary) if they just made a better product and used effective advertising to make themselves dominant.

I just happened to be looking at the stats for my web site the other day and noticed a couple of hits from something called Bing. I'd never heard of it before and didn't bother to investigate any further, assuming it was some sort of unpopular search engine.

Wow. The writer of that article couldn't possibly bend over any more for Microsoft if he wanted to. His nose is brown, too.

J.

I've checked it out, mostly to do vanity searches related to my own website. I'm impressed, but I don't plan on changing my defaults.

I've used it, and it sucks. Try searching for "Linux" on both Bing and Google and compare the results  Bing totally isn't biased.

Google will never be overthrown.

Funny, but I just did search for Ubuntu, which is my OS, and found all kinds of stuff with no mention of MS:lol:

I've tried it. The "decision engine" label their marketeers put on the thing seems pretty weak. It's YASE (Yet Another Search Engine)

Only to search for video porn to see if people were exaggerating about how Bing could practically be turned into a porn portal by changing a few settings.

That search that msbae screencapped is pathetic on Microsoft's part. I'm so certain that more people have searched for "linux microsoft" or "linux windows" than "linux downloads". :wtf:

I used it. It was fine. I didnt find it better, nor worse than GOogle. Found what i needed via image search.
