Harry Potter HBP Blu-ray Deals

As you may know, it's coming out on DVD and BD on Tuesday, 12/08. Walmart has the cheapest price, $15 for the BD. Best Buy has the second best deal with $17.99, and Target, my favorite store, surprisingly has the BD on sale for $19.99.

Target has reasonably low prices on new releases but hasn't been competing really well with other retailers when it comes to Blu-rays. I remember when Transformers 2 came out, Target's BD price was $2 or $3 more than BB. Star Trek BD wasn't bad, an average sale price of about $19.99. I was half-expecting Target to have low-priced BD sale prices, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Any thoughts?

I got the 3 disc limited edition Blu-Ray edition from Play.com for £16.99, Disc 1 is Blu Ray, Disc 2 is DVD, Disc 3 is a digital download and it also came with a film cell too.

EDIT: I'm not quite sure what you mean by the pricing pattern. Are you referring to the "general" price range of DVDs (e.g., $15.99 - $17.99) between the different stores? Or are you asking if the prices of new DVDs are analogous to the prices of Blu-Rays (cheap during the first week, then price goes up afterwards) at any given store?

When I used to buy DVDs (the question now is, will I still be getting them?), I mostly got them at Target during the first week of release, which was cheaper by a few bucks compared to Best Buy, Circuit City, and other retailers. I can remember when the price of new releases was as low as $14.99 at Target; then over the years it became $15.99. I think the last time I actually bought a new movie on DVD, the sale price was up to $17.99.

Now when it comes to Blu-Rays, though, Target hasn't been competing well price-wise, based on the previous examples I gave about Transformers 2, Star Trek, and now, Harry Potter: HBP. The last couple of times, I actually bought Blu-Rays from Amazon.com simply because it had the best overall sale price, even with the shipping charge.

I got that version too though with out the film cell. at £18 I thought it was a good deal. getting three versions at £6 each. means the niece can borrow the dvd while I use the blu ray

Well, I got the HBP Blu-Ray tonight at Target for $19.99 plus tax. I first stopped by the local Wal-Mart, which sells the item this week for $15.00; when I got there, they were out of stock, as usual. I'm starting to think some bozo buys out all the new BD copies and sells them on e-bay.

Correction: Best Buy sells the HBP BDs at a much cheaper price than I thought, but I didn't have the time and energy tonight to drive to the nearest BB. Amazon.com is pretty good, too, but I didn't want to pay for the $3 shipping and wait several days.

Harry Potter back titles get 3D for Blu-ray 3D

Yes, after Warner Bros said it was concerned about creating a less-than-stellar 3D conversion of the next theatrical Harry Potter release, it seems the studio has no qualms about going back to movies that were already released and giving them the 3D makeover.

There's now speculation that Warner is looking back at Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, for potential conversion to a Blu-ray 3D release.

And they might even get re-released in theaters specifically for 3D audiences.
