I didn't see a dedicated thread for this, which I'm wagering will be the top-grossing film of 2011 (and the first film in the franchise to cross the billion-dollar mark); Part 1 would have been the top film of 2010 if it had had 3D. I guess Transformers 3 would be the main competition.

No dedicated teaser/trailer yet, though of course there was footage from it included in the trailer for both films released eight months ago.

However, today we got a new promo photo:

Rock on, Neville.

I'm sad John Williams won't be returning as composer. :(

They should have retained Hooper for the last two scores. Desplat's score for the last film was desolate and uninspiring to me. I am looking forward to the conclusion of this film saga.

Hooper quit.

No matter how much you try to polish a turd, it's still a turd.

Still the movie has made some significant improvements over the novel, the fate of Wormtail being the most obvious.

Watching the DHpt1 at the Burrows reminded me of Lord of the Rings' Battle for Helms Deep and Gandalf's line: "The Battle for Helms Deep is over, the battle for Middle Earth is about to begin"

And to paraphrase for HP: "The Battle for the Deathly Harrows is over...the Battle for Hogwarts is about to begin..."

OMG Neville! Such a BAMF. :p They'd better leave his big scene in...

Rumour du jour is that a trailer will be attached to Battle: Los Angeles and Red Riding Hood.

He's holding the sword of Godric Gryffindor in the picture so that bodes well.

That's one key scene for me in the final book.. Badass Neville going medieval kickass at Hogwarts :techman::techman:

The other one will be one Mrs. Molly Weasly and it involves Bellatrix Lestrange ;)

If those two scenes make it into the movie uncut and in all their glory i'll be one satisfied customer

You know what would make this a good film? (not the actual crappy Deathly Hallows book obviously) What would rile up a good chunk of the fanbase forever?

Simply, after all the carnage and action and drama of the film have the final scene be Harry and Hermione walking up to each other, their music playing in the background, they stop, look at each other and simply say "I've always loved you Harry/Hermione" embrace, make out and fly off together as the credits roll.

It would rock as both actors have immense chemistry with each other, and make the entire film franchise worth watching through in it's entirity.

Plus I would pay good, good money to be able to read and watch certain forums react if that was how it ended.

This will probably be my only post in this thread. I haven't read any of the books, and I have so far managed to completely avoid spoilers for this last film. All I can say is that I am very excited and would really like Part 1 to come out on Blu-Ray so I can rewatch it.

I didn't really like his score either.
Count me as one of those who actually did like Desplat's score. I thought it fit the bleak, oppressive tone of the film perfectly. It's one of those scores that, for me anyways, really took on a great deal of life and texture with repeat listens. Months later, I still find myself humming certain melodies or remembering specific tracks quite fondly.

That being said, it's not an immediately visceral score, and it's certainly not Williams, so I understand why it didn't resonate with a lot of folks.

I think the Harry/Hermione 'shippers got their shout out in Part I in the form of that (imo incredibly awkward) dance sequence.

I understand The Harry/Hermione chemistry in the movie series, but, I never under those shippers in the Book series, they're like Brother and Sister

Well, I sort of do, speaking purely in abstract terms. The problem is that Ron is such an amorphous third-wheel of a character with few attractive qualities other than basic niceness (not even a very attractive quality).

While Hermione and Ron getting together eventually was predictable from very early on, it's never convincing imo that Hermione would actually fall for this guy. Harry on the other hand has all the attractive qualities. Rowling in effect tries to address this in the seventh book, with Ron having to overcome his feelings of inadequacy, which I actually think makes for the best character material in the last novel other than Neville's universally recognized awesomeness.

But from Hermione's point of view I don't think her feelings were ever adequately explored or justified. It's kind of pathetic, really, that Ron's big moment in the climax of the novel is his ability to imitate Harry speaking Parseltongue (or whatever snake-speech is called in the books, I can't recall exactly). The narrative has Hermione get all excited about this amazing display of prowess that is indeed indicative of Ron's status as Harry's sidekick, but the whole incident underlines the fact that Ron doesn't contribute much and isn't good at anything.

So, I can sort of see why, if you had an interest in 'ships or whatever, you might lean toward Harry/Hermione.
