Happy Windows 7 Day!

Whose buying it today? Shops open in 17 minutes as I type this so might go down and see what kind of mad-ass display our local retailer has set up.

It doesn't release until the 22nd for us here in the U.S.
I won't get it for a few days after that (free upgrade through HP :D )

That being said, I'm excited and looking forward to it!

Well, technically speaking I've been using this for ten months so it's nothing amazing, but will still be good to see the finished product in action.

Meh, I still have to wait a bit for a friend of a friend to get me a copy from the company store. :(

w00t! An operating system that's only a little bit different from the previous one and which I've been running for 9 months already. :shifty:

Okay, I actually am a little excited about finally being able to install Win7 on my laptop, but my Amazon order was only dispatched this evening so it probably wont arrive until next week. I hope other people enjoy the boring task of backing up all their files, installing the thing and then spending days customising things to exactly the way they like it. I know I will! :)

I am trying to hold off as long as possible at my work. I want to keep all the users on XP for as long as humanly possible.

I am such a nerd because I will.

I've enjoyed using the release candidate on my laptops but I've having a lot of trouble with it on my current desktop hardware so I'm not in any particular hurry to upgrade from XP. If I get it with a new PC then fine, but I don't expect to be pay for for a retail copy until the first service pack.

Yup, same for me, except through Dell.

.... I'm quite happy with Vista on this laptop.

Yeah, I've only been running Vista since I got my new laptop in August, but I'm actually very happy with it. Not sure what all the fuss has been about, though I admit I'm a very light user. The only problems I have had were caused by some of the multitudinous Windows updates. Once I stopped the auto update install and started selectively installing only the updates that were necessary, I've had no problem whatsoever.

Ugh ..., again, now. I just went through this when I bought the new lappie in August, as referenced above. I kept telling myself not to do too much customization or to download too much from my external HDD to the lappie until the Win 7 upgrade ... but I didn't listen to myself. :shifty:

But, I'll just keep believing all the people who assure me I need to drink the Win 7 Kool-Aid and life will be all sunshine and rainbows. ;)

I really do wish that was something Microsoft could pull off like Apple.
Backing up your data on an Apple is insanely easy. It is literally copy the whole hard drive to another hard drive, and paste. That's it.

I'll do what I did last time and wait until it finally irons out the last serious flaws, or peer pressure in the form of "we're no longer going to update your OS" happens.

Mind you, I'm still looking forward to seeing it in action at last following the warm reception RC1 received, even though I'm pretty much happy with my Vista set-up right now.

I finished backing up all my data, and now I await the mailbox. :D

Shit, I just saw this is retailing for NZ$599 (Ultimate), yet I can get it through a supplier for NZ$280. Why the huge mark up???

That would be Microsoft saying, "Look Apple, we can be hip and trendy!" when they cannot. Apple has spent decades honing their image. Microsoft doesn't have a chance in that department. Apple will always be hip, chic lifestyle, and Microsoft will always be utilitarian, broad based establishment. Even the Apple commercials press this image. It has stuck to Microsoft like a pair of Tiberian bats.
