Happy Thanksgiving!

We had an entertaining Thanksgiving dinner at my inlaws. There was lots of drama, crying, arguing, and angst. None of it involved my husband or I, so we just sat back and watched it all unfold. It was like watching a very long, but entertaining movie.

Care to elaborate? ;) I, too, have had more of my normal share of calories, fat, and sugar today, but 'tis the season. I don't think I overindulged myself, though. It was just like going out to a special lunch or dinner.

Oh, God. I can't eat another thing.

Well, I could but right now no one is offering me that.

But lots of food, lots of pie. Made some delicious mashed potatoes as my part of helping with dinner (along with carving the turkey) and... Ugh.

Good, good, food.

Then watched Tropic Thunder with the parents and we played some dominos.

Good night, good fun. Just what Thanksgiving should be. The only Holiday uncorrupted by retail, commercialism and consumerism and that's why it is my favorite Holiday.

Now, the Hell season begins.

Friggin' Christmas.

But I don't want to spoil this thread on those rantings. Instead, I want to dream of my leftovers.

Tropic Thunder is a fun movie. My relatives wanted to rent it, but I think all the video stores and Redbox machines are out of stock right now. Instead, we ended up watching some low-budge horror flicks, which gave us some really good laughs. Good times, good times.

That's what my mom and I did last year, I brought over some MST3K and we watched some of those.

Tonight it was Tropic Thunder.

My perfect sister-in-law, with her perfect life, got drunk before dinner, and then just after dinner, she basically told the whole family she is cheating on her husband.

Tried to be good this time but still ate too much. My oldest daughter and I went on two walks around the neighborhood just to work some of it off.

One thing we were very thankful for today; finally got to see my stepson for the first time since a gun was stuck in his face and robbed at work (pizza place on Halloween). He hasn't been back there since and I can't blame him. So we were thankful just to have him around. Course his sisters took him into there bedroom and did an extreme makeover. It was great to see them all laughing together.

Oof. I'm stuffed.

OMG, that is so AWESOME! :bolian: Drama is totally the shizzat!

Not going there... :p

I spent most of Canadian Thanksgiving in transit - I was in Washington, DC that weekend, so I had a turkey club sandwich for lunch at the airport. It was as close as I got.

My bf volunteered to work the 3-11 shift today because so many of his co-workers took the day off (and he wants to take a couple of extra days at Christmas so that he can visit his parents in Memphis, so he's hoping that this will make his boss look more kindly on his request), so I assume that he hasn't had any turkey today either.

That is so awesome :guffaw:

Not for your brother(?) that is....but just the situation how it played out.

Small Thanksgiving here this year, only three of us left. But we're still doing a turkey, albeit a smaller one than normal. It'll be good eats though, as usual.

I am so in love with Alton Brown.

I went out to my grandma's farm with the usual 25-30 family members. I got there about 11:30am, and we ate our gigantic meal around 12:30. My aunts and mom generally do all the cooking, but people bring random side dishes too. Then a couple of my cousins and I smooshed onto one of the beds and digested and made fun of each other. We played some random games and after most of the people left my sister went to try to rent Hancock, but the video store was closed, so she just bought it at the gas station and we all sat around and watched that and ate leftovers and some pizza my uncle picked up. I just got home around 10:30pm.

This was the first time in such a long time that I didn't pass out for like three hours after eating at a family holiday. There were congratulations all around.

the turkey before we all got to it today.

(sorry bout the bad english but the turkey has some kind of sleep aid in it that got me going eraaa not going today and almost ready for hibernation again this year.)

just coming out of my evening stupor from the bird foods.

Nothing like a soap-operatic situation or revelation to brighten up one's holiday. I normally don't take delight at other people's misfortunes, except for those who probably deserve them or those, as mentioned, who have seemingly perfect lives. They always seem to brag about all the good things in their wonderful lives (the valedictorian son, the husband who got promoted to VP, the daughter who got a $10,000 raise); incidentally, they never say anything about the coming-out-of-the-closet gay son, the adulterous husband, and the slutty daughter who got syphilis.

What's wrong with being gay? Or is your family hateful and homophobic too?

One would have to eat an entire turkey for the tryptophen in turkey to take hold. Usually sleepyness from a Thanksgiving meal just comes from so much food being consumed and heavy, starchy, foods at that. All of the rolls, potatoes, and cassaroles are doing far more to tire you than the the tryptophen in turkey.

I'm still trying to figure out where she got the alcohol. The rest of us didn't have any, and my mother-in-law usually doesn't tolerate it being in her house.

I do feel bad for her husband and kids. It must have been embarrassing for them. He is a nice guy who deserves better.

Now it is time for a weekend full of leftover Thanksgiving dinner. I think I am going to have stuffing and sweet potatoes for breakfast.
