Happy Ragnarok!

The frequency in which apocalypses occur seems to be growing, doesn't it? Y2K. The end of the Mayan calendar. Now this.

I was too young and/or not born yet to know, but were there this many apocalypses in the last century?
depends on whether you count politicians as apocalypses.

But only this week I read that Nessie is presumed to be dead as she wasn't seen in over 2 years.

As for Ragnarök: it's postponed. The Edda clearly says that before Ragnarök there'll be Fimbulwinter, a sort of small ice age, lasting 3 years. Thanks to global warming that might take a while.
Also, Ragnarök is not the end of the world. It's just the end of the gods and the beginning of a new era.

Dammit! that sounds so much cooler than what the Bible predicts!
If we have to go out, let's do it in style.

Oh, and a shame they have no Thor movie ready for this occasion!
The entirety of Norse Mythology is much cooler than the entirety of the bible.

Also, let's pillage, ya'll!

From the point of view of a biologist/ecologist that would be quite desirable. It'd give many other species a chance of *not* getting extinct.
From my personal point of view I wouldn't actually mind much either. My ancesters are dead, future generations are not yet born, and my contemporaries and myself will be dead in a few decades anyway. Statistically, I have another 25 years. I'd like to live another 50-60 but death is not exactly something we have control of. So I love life and simply enjoy every day. I guess one can't do more, regardless, whether the end of the world is near or not.
