Hands Off?

Something has just occured to me that makes no sense. In "Broken Bow" in the scene where Archer, T'Pol and Tucker sit down for lunch, she says about how Vulcans don't touch food with their hands (as she tries to cut up a breadstick).

How did she get it onto her plate in the first place?

I always assumed she meant while eating at the table.

Either that, or she simply "pinched" them with the knife and fork and put them on the plate. Shouldn't have been to hard.
